HARTFORD, Conn. -- The director of the FBI is not happy with the Supreme Court's recent handgun ruling.
Robert Mueller said he tends to believe that "weapons harm people, and more often than not they harm the people carrying them."
Mueller said the high court's decision, which threw out a handgun ban in Washington, D.C., "does throw a lot of things up in the air."
Last week, the Supreme Court struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns by a 5-4 vote. It was the first major pronouncement on gun rights in history.
Mueller said communities now will have to decide their own licensing programs.
Mueller spoke Monday at a convention of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators in Hartford, Conn.
He said with his grandchildren going to college, he hopes "those campuses will be weapons-free."
He said college campuses and small communities could be "potential incubators of terrorism" even while major cities such as New York and Los Angeles remain primary targets for terrorists.
President Bush needs to can Director Mueller Now.I guess he doesn’t believe We the People have the Right to keep and bear arms.
What other Rights is he against.
They were surprised how quickly and easily the media took to it. Even today most people think it is true and no one in the media will tell the truth.
Puppypusher. Did you ever work at Lackland?
Well, they won't be. They will only be law-abiding-citizens-weapons-free. Criminals will still have guns on campus, just as they do now, just as they did last year at Virginia Tech, when a teacher had to sacrifice his life because he didn't have a gun in his drawer.
J. Edgar Hoover is rolling over in his grave. Even if Mueller thinks this way, he definitely should keep his mouth shut, because it reveals what a wimp we have heading the FBI.
Couldn't be! If that were the case, whoever gave the order would have been publicly pilloried.
/mega sarcasm
He should be immediately fired. He took an oath, he’s breaking it. Bush should can his stupid ass.
I would sort of like to have his MP-5 and all the goodies attached to it. I would prefer mine to be semi auto tho.
No I didn't actually work at Lackland AFB,But I received my training there at the Military Working dog School as a Patrol dog Handler.
I actually enjoyed my time that I was there.
I agree Bush should fire him but since Bush and he probably share the exact same sentiments I doubt he will.
Thanks to what his goons did at Mt. Carmel there a number of children who will never go to college. They were burned alive by his goons.
You forgot Shooting women holding babies and burning live children to death.
Before we knew it, the dog lunged at the Black guy whose name was Pugh The dog meant business too, he was just about to eat him up.
Pugh looked at him after the handler pulled him back and said "dog you prejudiced".
I know they had other dogs which they couldn't allow in public too.
How does an individual so naive and simple-minded become the head of the FBI?
When I did this research on local police departments in the midwest, what little data that I could tease out of the stonewall of glaring silence indicated that the rate is higher than that in the community of CCW permitees.
But, we'll never know because I found nobody with any appetite to talk about the subject, let alone release internal reports.
Why don’t they make sure there are laws against carrying guns on college campuses. Oh, wait, there already are. To protect themselves why don’t they pass laws stasting that no one whatsoever is permitted to carry firearms onto FBI property? Or while on duty? Or government employee at home? Those goobermint employees that don’t agree should quit and then fight back instead of being part of the problem!
What an idiot.
Oh, yeah, at the Victoria's Secret in the great beyond.
The only other Supreme Court ruling in modern time to have this much resistence from the political establishment was Brown vs. Board of Education and its desegration effects.
