Sen. John McCain will choose businessman and former Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney as Vice President, in his bid for the White House this November, a source closely connected with the McCain campaign, who asked to remain anonymous, told us earlier this afternoon.
Though others were close in the running, the choice ultimately came down to the moneynot the man. According to our source, the campaign narrowed their Vice Presidential options to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, the two most successful opponents of McCain in the bid for the Republican nomination. But despite Huckabees sway with far Right conservatives and evangelical voters, Romney packs the deepest fund-raising pockets.
As a successful businessman and prominent member of the staggeringly wealthy Mormon community, Romney brings with him the potential to raise upwards of $60 million in 30 to 60 days, whereas Huckabee could only raise $10 to $15 million, says our source.
McCain needs those types of numbers to be competitive with the money-sponge that is the Obama campaign, which has 1.7 million individual donorsas well as the Hollywood machineand is ringing-out advertising dollars across the country, saturating voters in his 50 State Strategy to win the White House.
How the hell did the publisher of the Top 20 Side-Boobs of All Time get this scoop, you must be asking yourself, right now. (We were asking ourselves the same question.) And heres the answer: Its all part of the McCain campaigns plan to directly target college-age voters, in an attempt to sway them away from Sen. Obama, says our source.
Additionally, the campaign wants to solidify their ticket far in advance of the Obama campaign making their VP choice, in order to get a head start on the surge in fund-raising they expect to receive with the announcement of Romney as the Republican VP pick.
So next time two dudes in suits knock on your door, they might want more than to proselytize about the Book of Mormon
UPDATE: We understand better than anyone how crazy it seems that we got this story first, so a healthy level of skepticism is expected. But we stand by the accuracy of our reporting on this, and will give you as many new details as possible in the coming daysincluding the name of our source, if we can.
Sorry, I don’t cater to metrosexuals or liberals. Like I said, if you can cite an offensive photograph that is pornographic, you go bring it to the mods and they will inform me which need to be removed. The thing is, you and I both know this is a red herring because you can’t refute anything I’ve said about your liberal idol.
It's silly ? So you have no problem electing a liberal. Did we become DU all of a sudden ?
What the hell are you talking about ?
Oh yeah. With McCain, we can have 3 more Souters! Oh joy.
Actually, I don’t even know if he frequents FR. He’s quite busy in what he does & I certainly wouldn’t bother him to come on here & take abuse from an apparently young liberal. He gets that enough there in Ma.
Right on. It's time to contact McCain and tell him you don't want lying liberals like *omney on the VP ticket !
All I’m going to say is that my faith is in the Lord, not Romney, not McCain, not any politician. And we very well may have lost anyway because of the poor choices this nation has made. McCain Romney is better than Obama whoever. If they are my choice, I will vote for them. Maybe Romney is a flim-flam man. I think almost all politicians these days are the same. Our nation is in dire trouble. If we elect McCain Romney, it will probably get worse. If we elect Obama, there may not be a nation left.
And I did not say that Reagan was pro-choice. Reagan was once a democrat, the conservative kind. His ideas matured and he became the best president of the last century. I wish there were another Ronny. What we have left doesn’t appear to be even close.
Might help if you made sense with your comments. Quotes, replies, etc.
If *omney ends up on the ticket, it will be the work of someone other than the Lord. Of course, unless it is His will this country be destroyed...
Said it before, I say it again, I do not despise Romney. Can’t say the same thing in regards to McCain. I could vote for that ticket, with McCain being the ugly friend that has to tag along.
“It’s silly ? So you have no problem electing a liberal. Did we become DU all of a sudden ?”
Speak for yourself or DU, not for Freepers. You speak for virtually no Freepers who have common sense and intelligence. Man, I can’t tell you how sick I am of seeing “fieldmarshaldj” turn up on every single thread about Romney, and along with it, all of your vituperative comments. They are so tiresome and not appreciated. You wallow in hate.
You ever heard of George Christopher ?
“Have you ever heard of the 11th commandment?”
Bringing that one up, I certainly hope that you are not backing McCain.
Oh, I’m sorry, I am accusing your friend of being a liberal. If he thinks *omney is honest, he’s also a willfully pig-ignorant idiot, too. Ping him. :-)
Do either of you live in Mass.?
“At least Teddy understands something about the history of this nation, and one would hope that given a chance to sell her out his conscience would at least slow him down.”
Google “ted kennedy letters Soviets 1980’s”
I think you would have to revise and extend your remarks.
On the other hand, the conservative members of the Supreme Court are relatively young. Scalia is 72, Thomas is 60, Alito is 58 and Roberts is 53. All of them will likely be serving for at least another four years.
If Obama replaces Stevens or Ginsburg because of retirement or death, it will only be one liberal for another. Thus, the status quo composition of the Supreme Court will be preserved.
The worst case scenario is for Kennedy to retire or die and be replaced by another justice who consistently voted with the liberal wing. Fortunately, I don't think this is likely to occur during the next presidential term.
Anyone who looks at the voluminous photographs of scantily clad/partially nude females posted on fieldmarshalldjs homepage can only fairly reach one conclusion: Those photos are intended to appeal to a prurient interest in sex. A true conservative would never exploit young females this way. All that taken w/ the fact that FMDJ has the nasty habit of calling others babe, honey, baby, etc. would lead one to believe that there may be more of a problem here than meets the eye. Shame on you, fieldmarshalldj.
Couldn’t agree more. I wish Romney was our candidate.
“Romney on the ticket will be a clear signal to conservatives that they’re not part of the McCain bandwagon.”
If one doesn’t realize that by now....? I mean it’s not like the Juanito camp is a hotbed of conservative thought.
