LONDON A British high school student received credit for writing nothing but a two-word obscenity on an exam paper because the phrase expressed meaning and was spelled correctly.
The Times newspaper on Monday quoted examiner Peter Buckroyd as saying he gave the student who wrote an expletive starting with f, followed by the word "off" two points out of a possible 27 for the English paper.
"It would be wicked to give it zero because it does show some very basic skills we are looking for, like conveying some meaning and some spelling," Buckroyd was quoted as saying.
"It's better than someone that doesn't write anything at all."

Yet another teacher patting himself on the back for his “understanding” and “open-mindedness”...while failing his students completely.
I’m pretty sure I would have got a big fat zero to go along with a caning from the nuns if I had ever turned in an exam answer like this.
That’s ok—when this loser can’t get a job, he’ll just sue the education board.
I think you’ve found the perfect solution.
I think it’s perfect. When you’re served by a terrible waitress; don’t give nothing, give 2 cents. It’s the same principle, the kid’s still failing either way.
Unless he spelled it “Aw fook hawf, ya woggie” or “ya pawlmie,” he didn’t deserve the two points.
He is British, you know!
This is a great endorsement on the quality of British education. Thanks!
2 points out of 27- This kid sounds like a miserable failure to me! It’s just so sad to see what has become
of the educational systems in the modern day western world.
It’s because the little maggots are getting too lazy to learn anything and this leads to lack of discipline in the schools and will eventually lead to a breakdown in society.
I say make bootcamps a compulsery part of the education
system. This will instill discipline and respect into the
sadly lacking youth of today.
I know this sounds wrong but Hitler had the right idea but he went too far and his indocrinations turned into brainwashing.
Gee. I can't imagine why you thought that would sound wrong.
but he went too far and his indocrinations turned into brainwashing.
That was the idea from the beginning -- to indoctrinate obedient drones for the Reich, loyal to Hitler personally, not to God, family or country. That's the "good idea" you're endorsing.
Government schools are easy to get good grades in. Whenever I wrote a pro liberal view paper I would get an A, no matter how bad the grammar or poorly written it was. It is all about effort nowadays, except of course if you write about how Jesus is your role model, or about your recent hunting trip.
I’m just surprised that he didn’t get an A, for succinctly and colorfully expressing the anger and frustration felt by today’s youth.
