Daniel Boone wasn't born until 1735, not 1700. Although his father (who had the same name) might well have said something like that, he most likely didn't speak English all that well. That's because lots and lots of stuff regarding his Dan Boone's mother's family (the Morgans) gets loaded onto the Boones by people who just gotta' have it that these guys who lived on the Susquehanna had been "Quakers".

The old "New Sweden" settlements in Lancaster County PA, and around Elkton, MD, relocated to the Susquehanna circa 1700 precisely to GET AWAY FROM THE QUAKERS then moving into the country and ruining it for the then virtually 100% Scandinavian population.

As you can see there are doubts (based on facts) about the official Boone genealogy. The claim that the Boones were Quakers is based on the idea that the Quakers dominated Burks and Lancaster counties where the Boones lived earlier. That turns the Boones into Englishmen too (in case no one noticed). However, the fact that the Boones relocated to the Susquehanna before little Daniel was born demonstrates that they were part of the Scandinavian community ~ most likely pure blood Sa'ami for that matter although we can never know what kind of "Morgan" Mrs. Boone (little Dan's mother) really was ~ there are plenty of Scandinavian's today with the Morgan name, or names that "sound like" it.

Not sure how we go about demolishing someone's traditional "official" ("He was English and a Quaker, no doubt about it, even though he carried wagon loads of guns about the countryside and fought AND killed Indians") genealogy. Maybe we start right here.

Though I'm very rusty (much the same as my Seasoned Citizen memory) I can remember when I studied martial arts in Japan some 45 years ago and after achieving advanced degrees, my hands could have been considered dangerous (and even lethal) weapons.
