While under such attacks I have not responded in kind, even though several times I was one click away from lowering myself to the level many (but not all) on this thread occupy. As for those that attack others solely because they have different views from their own, I am sure your unreasoned and emotional attacks would be cheered and lauded by the lemmings at DU.
I know from personal experience that life is a precious gift that can be taken away. While most of you were watching O.J. run up the freeway in 1994, I was watching my newborn son die from Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. He never left the hospital - that is tragic. Not because I experienced it, but because it was beyond anyone's control, and he was truly innocent. Forgive me for not getting all broken up when a young man chooses to do something stupid that costs him his life. I will save my sympathy for the innocent, the unfortunate and the deserving.
Flame me if you want, because I don't value most of your opinions anyway.
Your bitterness is going to kill you. I have totoal empathy for what has happened to you so I’m not going to engage you any longer. I will offer prayers for you, although you probably don’t care or want them. Why? Because you are a human being deserving of sympathy and love. We all are. The innocent as well as the “stupid” as you say. The young, the old, and the testosterone filled male teens who for a temporary period of time in their lives - miscalculate and and have less fear of things that should be feared.
Peace be with you - and I mean that sincerely.
And my condolances for your loss.
Well said, Tex.
FR is standing by to be over run by EMO kids...............
Young people have been doing stupid things, sometimes with tragic consequences, since the beginning of time. Your inability or refusal to feel any kind of sympathy for them or their families says more about you than anything anyone else says. When one receives feedback from a number of different sources, it’s often better to reconsider your own actions rather then strike out at those providing the feedback. Truly sorry about your son.
We have something in common: My 1st born came to us with Tetralogy of Fallot. We went through hell. Your personal experience and mine have nothing to do with this thread.
Well said. There is no compassion in sympathy for ignorance. It is rooted in a fear of being caught in one’s own ignorance and a vain hope of being excused for it by excusing someone else’s. The result is a validation of the ignorance that led to the problem. Where is the compassion in encouraging more of the same by relating to it like it was normal and acceptable?
I’m not trying to flame you, I just don’t quite get the attitude.
I think there are degrees of sympathy, maybe?
I feel sorrier for a baby like yours suffering and dying than perhaps a young man who wanders into a restricted zone.
But I do feel sorry for both. Basically because I think I have been just as stupid at certain points. To be honest, I think you probably have been, also. If you think about it. Maybe not, I can’t know for sure, obviously.
Excellent reply.
Whoa. . . .pal, all I did was express my support for one side of the debate. Why drag me into your rant.
I made my choice clear and moved on. Being ‘pinged’ to read some sort of rant does not add to your argument.
Have a nice day.

Like the young man’s family, perchance?
