Judge bans Bible from school, appeal filed

A brief has been filed in a federal appeals court asking the justices to overturn a judge who ordered a school district specifically to ban the Bible in its policy regarding the distribution of literature to students.

WND reported just a week ago when a federal judge declared unconstitutional a Florida law that was used to prevent Gideons from handing out Bibles to students on public property near schools.

Now comes another dispute, this one in Missouri and pursued by Liberty Counsel in its request to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis. It wants the court to overturn a district judge's ruling that could be used to allow distribution of the Quran, but specifically censors the Bible under the district's open forum policy that is content-neutral.

The case comes out of a policy adopted by the school board in the South Iron School District in Iron County, Mo. The district has had a long-standing open access policy "that allows many community groups to present literature and information to students at its schools, outside the classroom during non-instructional time." In fact, officials noted, no one requesting permission ever had been refused.

Among the "diverse" groups that have participated are the Army Corps of Engineers, Red Cross, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Iron County Health Department, Missouri Water Patrol, Missouri Highland Healthcare and Union Pacific Railroad, officials said.

However, a recent distribution of Bibles by the Gideons supported by a local association of ministers prompted outrage from members of the American Civil Liberties Union, who filed a lawsuit seeking to censor the Bible.

School board members put into writing their open forum policy, specifically allowing material on a content-neutral basis unless the material fell into specific categories, such as pornography or advocacy of illegal activities.

The All Communist Litigation Unit (ACLU) is a multi-headed beast whose only desire is to oppose God, country, family and the individual. Shoot it before it gains any more strength.

Time for Catholics, Christians and Jews to step up to the plate and fight for their religious rights.

Why? Because Muslims are not only practicing their religion in public schools (Minnesota - caught Spring 2008) the taxpayers are paying for the practice.

Additionally, nitwit teachers are allowing Ramadan celebrations in the public schools in Washington, D.C. as well as other East Coast cities.

Remember the teacher's aid in Pittsburg who lost her job for wearing a cross a few years ago.

Every Christmas these same fools try to ban Christmas in schools and towns.

However, the liberals seem to have zero qualms about putting on Earth Day which is a pagan holiday. So, are they saying pagans are in and Christians are out.

Religious beliefs are protected under the Constitution... so I say if you're going to allow Darwinism (adopted by pagans) then the country needs to make allowances for Catholics, Christians and Jews.

Every once in a while an enlightened (kawf) teacher throws the Jewish kid a bone (guilt) and allows a Chanukah celebration in the MA classrooms... because Ramadan is acknowledged... Even the made up holiday Kwanza is celebrated by these idiotic teachers.

I’d say get familar with the Establishment Clause in the Constitution. Worship however you wish - just don’t do it on public property or with public funds.....there is no shortage of houses of worship in this country.

No! You are agreeing with the ACLU that Christianity be banned from public places and shut up in houses of worship and private homes. That would make Christianity unequal to other beliefs freely spoken of and even taught in school.

“- just don’t do it on public property or with public funds...”

Oh, like our government giving Korans to Muslims for FREE in Gitmo and supplying them with places to worship? What about all the chapels and such on military installations? Are those not allowed in your jacked-up version of the Establishment Clause?

So much for the “may not prohibit the free exercise of”, eh comrade? I guess my political opinions are best only shared with like-minded folks in private as well.

America has never been a nation where we had to go indoors, in private, to worship. What you and your ilk are trying to accomplish is having disbelief as the only state-sponsored faith. A religious person surrenders NO rights by being religious and has every right to practice his faith as is explicitly laid out in the first amendment.

Isn’t that the sme as saying “(Speak/be secure/assemble/keep and bear arms etc) however you wish, just don’t do it on public property or with public funds”.

Let’s clearly keep in mind, that “public property “ is infact, the property of the people, not the “state” (the state is the people, remember?). It is the very platform to exercise all of our enumerated and non-enumerated God given rights, not the place to be a pawn of the “government”, which only has certain “powers” granted by the very same people that “own” it.

God Bless

Have any of you considered that the problem **is** have compulsory government schooling?

NO school can be religiously, culturally, or politically neutral. It is impossible!

Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education. Begin with tax credits and vouchers.

There is **no** possible way for any government school to solve the problem in a religiously neutral manner.

1) If it allows the Bible, Quran, Book of Mormon, etc. then the school violates the rights of children and parents who do not want their children forceabley exposed to this material.

If government school does not permit the Bible, Quran, Book of Mormon, etc. then the government is violating free speech.

Government schools always were, are now, and always will be a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination!

If our Founding Fathers could see the modern government school system they would be appalled!

Our Founding Fathers would immediately recognize that education is **never** religiously, culturally, or politically neutral. They would recognize that have a government curriculum scrubbed free of religious belief is not religiously neutral. It is teaching the child that their family's religion is unimportant and not necessary in evaluating all knowledge. It is teaching that a god-less worldview is not only acceptable but preferred.

Our Founding Fathers would also recognize that government schools can not accommodate all religious belief. They would recognize that a government school can not simultaneously teach from a god-centered and god-less point of view. It is impossible.

The solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education. Government schools are NOT religiously neutral. They never have been. They are **establishing** the religion of god-less atheistic and agnostic Secular Humanism! Get rid of them!

As usual, the World Nut Daily article tends to distort the facts, particularly regarding the "long-standing policy" that was apparently instituted after the first lawsuit was filed.

More information here and here, and the ACLU site has copies of several of the legal documents posted.

As I understand it, “the free excerise” is not an establishment. All evidence given by the signers of our Declaration of Independence they founded the first American Bible society, and supported teaching the Bible in our public schools. And they warned what the conscequences would be if we did not. See “Bible In Schools” by Dr. Benjamin Rush(1745-1813).Dr. Rush was one of the youngest signers of the Declaration of Independance.
For my part, I believe the Bible and the Church establishes the state), rather than the state establishing the Church.
If we study our history,we find, godly men of the Church and the Bible founded almost (if not all)every great University and school in the United States, those that came later, are merely copies of the original.

Worship however you wish - just don’t do it on public property

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

I will worship wherever I wish.

Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father. But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father."

I agree. I doubt the framers intended to make the US government atheistic-that philosophy was existant then as well.

Rather, I think they wanted to encourage freedom to worship-w/o the government making choices as to what faith was “ approved”.

Next we’ll hear of how the US Constitution delcares “separation of church and state”....

We seem to have a few SCOTUS justices that can actually read/comprehend english, while a good handful that obviously cannot.

God Bless

My dear friend I mentioned only the establishment clause in my post.....don't think I have any problem with you worshipping whereever you wish. I happen to enjoy a chat with my higher power while on the throne in the morning.

What I do have a problem with is anyone using public property to advance their particular brand of religion.

I object to the public schools furthering the Muslim religion and spitting on Christianity.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The best response to this is to put these people out of a job. **Close** the government schools! Permanently!!!

An easier way is to get rid of the NEA.
