Obama Attacks McCain On 'Less Fair' Judiciary issue
Digital Journal ^ | June 14, 2008 | Maria Gavrilovic

Posted on 06/27/2008 7:17:48 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

While in Wayne, Pennsylvania, presumed Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, has attacked presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona on the issue of appointing judges to the United States Supreme Court. Obama gave the suggestion that McCain would overturn Roe w. Wade.

Obama had continued to express his support on the recent ruling by the US Supreme Court that said the detainees of Guantanamo Bay do have rights. This ruling was condemned by both US President George W. Bush and McCain. McCain said that this goes against the number one issue, national security of this country. This could be tied to McCain’s main campaign platform, which is Iraq.

Now, he attacked McCain on the possibility of putting ultra conservative judges to the highest court.

“John McCain has basically said he would appoint judges who don’t see a right to privacy, and as a consequence, would be likely to overturn Roe v Wade,” Obama said to a small group at the town hall meeting. He added: “You’re just one justice away from that.”

“the possibility of putting ultra conservative judges to the highest court.”

We should be so lucky.

It will never happen. I find it amusing liberals scare the American people with the bugaboo about an ultra right-wing court. I wish it was one!

McCain had better start attacking Obama or he is toast. If he can’t attack Obama he can’t attack our enemies

Obama’s belligerence and disrespect makes him look tough and macho. Like he’ll he be tough on our enemies— But he won’t he will cave

Or get Mitt Romney for VP and get him to rip big mouth Obama to shreds on his lack of experience in anything

“I don’t want her punished with a baby”

And then later talking about “By my faith I’m opposed to Abortion...”

This guy is a hanging softball of a Candidate, McCain had better find “tone” from his old fighter pilot days and start letting the Liberal seeking missiles fire...

Obama is using code words when he speaks of “fairness” and “womens’ rights” with regard to the Supreme Court. When it comes to judicial appointments, his top priority will be to keep the baby-killing mills running and profitable.

My first line would be, “Why don’t you work up the courage to say that line to my face in a joint townhall?”

I want to see 35-year old jurists on the court so right-wing they make Scalia look like Earl Warren.

McCain was an attack plane pilot, not a fighter pilot.

That's not a slam on anyone. Just being accurate.

Sue me. When I got out I was in a F/A squadron. :P

I do not know the difference Knitebane, I thought he flew A-6’s or Phantoms or 104’s?

Don’t think he was a Marauder pilot though?

It’s funny how when the Supreme Court makes a decision that the liberals want, the decision came down from God and the Founding Fathers through the voices of the SCOTUS “judges” and should therefore, should not be questioned or challenged. When conservatives win one, the decision came from right wing extremists nutcases on the Supreme Court and it’s Bush’s (or McCain’s) fault.

He flew the Scooter in combat...

A-4 Skyhawk

The difference? Fighter pilots make movies. Attack pilots make history. ;)

I am willing to listen to offers, although my age (38) may disqualify me... :-)

Many aspects of society, including the Supreme Court, look like they're drawn from "The Emperor's New Clothes". Where's that smart-Alec little kid when we need him?

A good judge should, ideally, not completely ignore precedent but should consider it only after considering the U.S. Constitution, treaties entered thereunder, and U.S. laws, in that order. If multiple possible rulings would all be consistent with the Constitution, treaties, and laws, then precedent can and often should be used to determine which should prevail. On the other hand, if the Constitution would compel a particular ruling, it should take priority over any precedent to the contrary.

Given that many judges seem unable to limit the weight they give precedent, I would suggest that a judge who totally ignored precedent would probably be better than one who gave it too much heed.

Hmm...didn’t tom Cruise fly a f-14, you can’t be important unless Tom Cruise plays you on film...LOL!

As I recall the a-4 was a two seater with a RIO? If so, McCain needs to find a new one to jam Obama’s air(time) defense system over at the Alphabet newtworks....

The A4 was a single seat fighter/bomber - no RIO. You're probably thinking of the F4 Phantom that was a two seater...

Which, if the press would accurately report this, would not make abortions illegal. I don't know of a single woman who would be barred from getting an abortion if that asinine decision was reversed.
