Oil drilling spat derails House funding bills

A Republican effort to force a vote on opening up more land to drilling on Thursday threatened to bring the annual appropriations process in the U.S. House of Representatives to a halt.

Democrats, who control the House, shut down Appropriations Committee work on two major federal funding bills after Republicans tried to force a vote on drilling.

"I think we've probably had our last meeting of the year," Chairman David Obey heatedly told reporters after the bill-drafting session broke up.

The meeting was called to work on Labor and Agriculture department bills. Republicans tried to attach the Interior Department bill -- the opening for an oil-drilling debate -- to the Labor bill.

"I'm not going to be blackmailed," Obey responded.

EXCELLENT! This is the most significant issue facing the Congress. If the Democrats want their pork spending, they can deal with this issue first.

Good. Let's hang the "Do Nothing Congress" label around the Democrats' necks. Republicans don't need to make life easy for them. "Drill More, Pay Less!" I love the principle and I think the politics drives the Democrats crazy. They are the ones who should explain to the American people why they think Americans should pay more. Its a loser position to be in.

The Dems unwittingly did something right. With the Appropriations Committee shut down, perhaps we will see less spending.

What will it take for people to realize what the dems are doing to this country? It is so frustrating. I’ve written my reps and made it clear we need to drill here, drill now. Don’t know what else to do.

Unless it's by liberals and special interest groups with fat wallets!

This is great!
At last an unusual but effective means for the nay-saying spendthrifts to stop writing checks on tax funds that they don't have.

Bravo.

Good. The world will be safer without your pork-fest committee. Way to show some spine GOP. Make the Democrats shut down all those committees. Press a damn issue or two.

That’s blackmail.

I won't be blackmailed. No! I'm not listening to you people. Huh? What? I can't hear you. Sorry but we won't be holding anymore meetings this year. Nope, we're closed. Can't help you with that.

Ok, fine, then let me ask you this. If this crap keeps up, will you do it at gunpoint? How about if 25 million patriots march on Washington...how about then? When you finally realize that YOU are about to lose it all, will you then do your fricking job?

WHEN in the hell are these a$$es going to realize that —We The People— have had it with these traitors??
