I get the feeling, especially after reading the nauseating New York Times editorial this morning, that the gun grabbers are planning to ignore the Supreme Court ruling in Heller, perhaps in the hope that President Obama will appoint justices more to their liking.

From McCain:

U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement regarding today’s United States Supreme Court ruling on District of Columbia v. Heller:
Today’s decision is a landmark victory for Second Amendment freedom in the United States. For this first time in the history of our Republic, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms was and is an individual right as intended by our Founding Fathers. I applaud this decision as well as the overturning of the District of Columbia’s ban on handguns and limitations on the ability to use firearms for self-defense.
Unlike Senator Obama, who refused to join me in signing a bipartisan amicus brief, I was pleased to express my support and call for the ruling issued today. Today’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller makes clear that other municipalities like Chicago that have banned handguns have infringed on the constitutional rights of Americans. Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of bitterness, today’s ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a fundamental right — sacred, just as the right to free speech and assembly.
This ruling does not mark the end of our struggle against those who seek to limit the rights of law-abiding citizens. We must always remain vigilant in defense of our freedoms. But today, the Supreme Court ended forever the specious argument that the Second Amendment did not confer an individual right to keep and bear arms.

Kinda wonder what John would say now about his "Saturday Night Special" ban approval and his "gun show loophole" crap.

• The game is played with polemics:

Define what militia means
Define what a gun is, assault weapon, and semi automatic…....
Define criminal
Define mental disorder
Define registering, license...........

• Then play the game of a thousand bureaucratic knife cuts:

Tax it, make lots of frivolous laws the require special handling of ammunition, no use of lead, restrict transportation, sales, require special training, create gun free zones, micro manage ranges, require gun owners to have a safe, make it to where you can’t sell a gun to a friend, make any modifications on it impossible, or where gun manufacturers have include safety locks, special electronic signature systems…….. Make stores go through arduous nut rolls of paper work and if they forget to cross a “t” or don’t an “i” jump all over them!!!!!!!! And of course the facade arguments will ALWAYS be “for the children and for the environment,” that latter being the new one.

The end state is always the same: Disarm citizens.

The socialist fears armed citizens since they have rights. It’s not about crime, public safety, or any other of the presented reasons by the left. It’s an ideology where the gun has become a focal point. Like abortion, which the liberal sees as some Constitutional right, the gun has become more than a tool made of steel and wood, but a symbolic focal point around which the left rallies. They attack the gun for the same reason why they so vehemently demand crosses removed from public buildings. In the battleground between the American traditionalist and secular progressives, the gun is just one more symbolic issue for the left. The gun owner just wants his guns, but the left has a deep rooted ideological motivation for their position, and that’s why you can’t change their minds even when you destroy all their arguments.

Here's to hoping that Heller gives you some relief out there in the Garden State.

Mayor Fenty: Not the sharpest knife in the drawer. But neither is anyone in the DC government. They’re all bone heads trying to figure out what to do next.

But then, this is the same city that had more than 50-million dollars stolen from city coffers right under its nose. From where?: The DC Office of Taxation.

What a mess.

While a revolver doesn't qualify as a “semiautomatic” I agree with your point that there is little practical difference between a (semi) automatic pistol and a revolver in that either can get several shots off rather quickly.

This D.C. politico is an idiot. But then I repeat myself.

Good luck to you out there. Some of us are wondering what Heller will mean for Nevada, but our state already recognizes a great level of liberty on the issue of RKBA already.

Well..let him have law abiding gun owners arrested for a ban that’s been striken from law by the Supreme Court. I look forward to the many lawsuits by citizens against the DC Police Department.

We were talking about a .357 revolver, which obviously is in no way automatic. (i.e. just being a smart-a$$)

Three of my .357 revolvers are semiautomatics.

But then again, I always did go for the weird stuff.

Wow. The worst part of this thread is the number of Freepers who are as ignorant about guns as the RAT mayor of DC. No, revolvers are not semi-automatic, unless you count the Webley-Fosbery, which hasn’t been made in about 80 years.

Please identify them, and post a pic if possible. I’m assuming you know the difference between semi-automatic and double-action.

All three are .357 mag Matebas. Look at post 41 for a second generation with the scope mount drilled and tapped holes. My first generation doesn’t have a provision for a scope. The last and third model uses an external compensator for the barrel nut. Matebas are also double action, recoil operated with the cylinder locking slots cut in the rear of the barrel for a very clean look. The cylinder isn’t round though. It’s a six sided hex shape. Check my profile page for a front view and the location of the barrel to the cylinder.

No muzzle flip with full house mag loads and the fastest lock time available.

Oh, and interchangeable barrels by taking off the front nut. Because of that, the front sight has the adjustments and not the rear.

Grips made from French Walnut.

Price for my first one was all of 625 dollars. You don’t want to know what the third one cost.

Still looking for comparable speedloaders.

Oh, yeah! I’ve heard of those, but I didn’t know they were semi-auto. I do know they’re very expensive and made in Italy(?). Thanks, and I apologise for doubting you. My own interests run more toward WW1 and WW2 guns, particularly Mauser rifles.
