The engine and drive train of my ‘95 Grand Caravan essentially disintegrated after a bit more than four years and maybe 50k miles. I would have been out well over $5,000 if I hadn’t had the good sense to buy an extended warranty. This only has to happen once to teach a lifelong lesson.

That's because Caravans are junk. I had an earlier model that was nothing but one set of major problems after another. Gas smell no one could trace, a crappy transmission that would thunk like hell whenever you put it in reverse, frequently overheated and a crappy steering system that at one point almost put my Wife in a ditch at 55 mph when it suddenly jerked the wheel to the right.

On the plus side, I've got a 98 Explorer with 108k miles that has been extremely reliable and a 2006 Fusion that is incredible to drive and has had ZERO problems so far.
