The bloodshed in Ciudad Juarez being fueled by the drug war must have triggered a major alarm in Washington, D.C., this past weekend when the sister-in-law of a prominent U.S. Congressman was kidnapped while on a shopping excursion in the Mexican border town.

The abducted woman was the sister of the wife of U.S. Representative Silvestre Reyes, D-Texas, chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

Reyes, IIRC, is the guy who couldn't tell the difference between Shiites and Sunnis, and who also wanted to conduct an official interview in Spanish because English is not his first language.

Locals in El Paso warned my hispanic friends not to go across the border these days because of the violence.

41 people were murdered in Juarez last weekend.

There is fear of letting people carry a gun to defend themselves but the drug dealing gangs would not be able to pick off victims so easily.

It was just a matter of time. Did the Congresscritter think he was immuned because of his Spanish lineage and Spanish name? Another question: what was his stance of the border fence? what was stance in protecting America from the uglies of the world? Behind the eight ball I’m sure.
