DOE to Purchase Heating Oil for the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve (Lib states use most oil)
Newsblaze ^ | June 23, 2008

Posted on 06/25/2008 10:10:47 AM PDT by rightinthemiddle

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today issued a solicitation seeking to purchase heating oil for the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve (NEHHOR) using $3 million in appropriated funds. The Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve provides an important safety cushion for millions of Americans residing in the Northeast region of the country. Due to the modest volume of heating oil expected to be purchased with the available funds, no impact on market prices is expected.

In 2007 a 35,000 barrel sale was conducted to raise funds necessary to award new long-term storage contracts to fill NEHHOR to its authorized capacity of two million barrels of home heating oil in accordance with the Energy Policy Act of 2000. Offers are due no later than July 1, 2008, and purchases are expected to be delivered during the week of July 7, 2008. The solicitation is being made on behalf of DOE through its agent, the Defense Energy Support Center.

The Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve was established by the Energy Policy Act of 2000 to provide a short-term supplement to Northeast heating oil supplies in the event of an actual or imminent severe energy supply disruption. Two million barrels was determined to be of sufficient size to provide relief from a shortfall in supply for approximately 10 days - the time it would take for replenishment supplies to arrive. NEHHOR currently holds 1,965,000 barrels located in three locations in the Northeast.

I found some data saying that Northeast states use 82% of all the heating oil consumed in the United States.

When are all those Northeast Liberals going to switch to solar?

At $3.7595/gallon for September delivery (just now) that’s ummmmm 797,978 gallons. Probably enough to keep the pipes from freezing in John Effin Kerry’s Boston mansion. Almost.

The average heating oil consumer uses 650 to 1000 gallons of heating oil a season.

70% of the families using heating oil live in the Northeast, but they use more than 80% of the fuel.

In the backwards, red-state Midwest, we use electricity from clean coal plants, hydro-generation and natural gas.

And, we’d be more than happy to build some nuclear plants.

Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Delaware, Connecticut...they’re literally burning nasty, dirty, old oil!

It will be interesting to see how many stupid libs freeze to death rather than insulate their homes or move to a warmer climate...or maybe Global Warming isn’t such a bad thing...if it were true.

I hate this program. Welfare. More welfare. Welfare for New York and Mass. Why didn’t the Reps eliminate this program. This would have been a great poster child. If people can’t afford to heat their own houses they can’t afford to live in them. What a scam.

move to a warmer climate

No! I'll donate another dollar just to keep them home.

I'm really surprised they use this much fuel though since so many of them spend winter in Texas.

If there are 10,000,000 households in the US that use oil heat, that's about 0.08 gallons per home. 2/3 of a pint. Trivial.

The good thing is that if they elect Obama, the Northeast is going to be calling for his impeachment by March. (Unless the "savior" has somehow figured out how to turn water into oil.)

“Hi. I’m Joe Kennedy, President of Citizens Oil, and I just saved 84-year-old Martha Loo Doofus from freezing to death because of Bush’s evil war and contrived oil shortage to help make his Texas oil buddies even richer. We Kennedy’s know that, just because we’re worth $800,000,000, and pay no taxes, and get away with maiming and killing young women at will, the NY Times and Boston Globe will protect us. So vote for Obama!”

(Kennedy): “Why, just this morning, I had to personally wrestle to the ground Dick Cheney, who had come to the home of Edward Buttbrain, a 98-year-old union retiree, to turn-off the electricity to poor Mr. Buttbrain’s iron lung. Cheney’s a tough old bastard, but I finally got the upper hand and he was forcefully removed from the property by Cambridge Citizens for World Peace and Justice and Burning Republicans Alive...”

(Unless the "savior" has somehow figured out how to turn water into oil.)

Wine!

Kennedy's going to have to fractionate the water converted to wine to remove excess water. Then they can use the resultant ethanol for both heating houses and running their stupid cars.

Not sure how the material balance on this is gonna look.
