Dissatisfied with teaching in Spanish 85 percent of the time, a North Carolina superintendent is pushing for a $10 million budget that includes a plan for a school where only Spanish is spoken.
Superintendent Peter Gorman pitched his proposal to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board today, with provisions to turn Collinswood Elementary into a Spanish program. Nora Carr, chief communications officer for Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District, told WND the facility will help to preserve Hispanic culture.
We find that a lot of kids who go there have parents who might be English-speaking immigrants, and they might be very successful," she said. "They fear that their kids might be losing some of the culture or not getting the fluency in the language because they speak English at home."
Carr said one of the top executives with AT&T is Hispanic and sends his children to the school.
"Obviously they are very fluent, well-educated in English, legal citizens," she said. "They're sending their kids there because they want them to have exposure to their native language."

“They’re sending their kids there because they want them to have exposure to their native language.”
Let ‘em take a class, like you do in French or any other language.
Miss your “culture”? Emmigrate.
This is a crock and embarrassing [I’m from NC].

So much for the well-educated English-speaking parents who want their kids to learn more Spanish. What a crock!
No doubt there’s yet another taxpayer-government program behind this scam.
“”They’re sending their kids there because they want them to have exposure to their native language.”
Then the local Catholic Church can run Spanish School after American School just like the Greek Orthodox Churches do. When I was a kid we went to Greek School three days a week after regular school, 3:30-5:00 PM. Since the Catholic bishops want to flood this country with immigrants, let them pick up just a tiny bit of the responsibility and the cost!
Did anyone ask this dolt about American culture? Or, does that not get him any tax dollars?
> ....told WND the facility will help to preserve Hispanic culture.
I don’t want to preserve spanish culture. I want it to die out and never appear again.
“They’re sending their kids there because they want them to have exposure to their native language.”

These kids were born in the U.S.! Their “native” language is ENGLISH!
What a dummy!
The bigger question is what are we (middle America) going to do about about it?
Tell Ol’ Pete Gorman if he wants an all spanish, school go to Spain.
This is America.
If you don’t like it , get the @#&% Out.
Maybe it's hairspray intoxication.

If the kids are born IN this country - then American English IS their “native” language - Spanish is a “foreign” language.
