U.S. mayors are adding their voices to those raising concerns about energy produced from Alberta's vast oilsands.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors, meeting in Miami this week, has approved a resolution calling on its members to ban the use of energy from unconventional sources because of its impact on the environment.
"We don't want to spend taxpayer dollars on fuels that make global warming worse," said Eugene, Ore., Mayor Kitty Piercy, who submitted the resolution.

Well, we have to use oil sands until we can find a way to run our cars on their hot air.
Not speculators, not big oil, not OPEC, your own government is doing this crap to you
Are low grade morons the only thing that can get elected any more?
These damn politicians no longer represent us! What do we have to do to get oil in this country, rebel? If it takes a revolt at the polls, I am in favor of throwing every one of these idiot mayors out. They run cities, they don’t run the country, so it’s none of their business how we get oil.
You don't need to spend taxpayer dollars on fuel. Open government lands and let private industry explore for oil, build nuclear power plants, and invest in new energy sources ya ninny!
Didn’t see a list of the mayors but their stupidity is insane as usual.
The only jurisidiction these clowns have is over someone drilling oil in their city. No one asked for their opinion, and I don’t want it.
These are representative of the people to which our idiot Senator Nelson wants to turn the presidential selection process over to with his scrap the Electoral College amendment.
“moron voters”
One born every second as PT Barnum said.
It’s just a shame you can’t make high grade gasolene out of
low grade morons.
Cities don’t pay taxpayers’ money for gasoline. They tax gasoline. This mayor doesn’t even grasp what the government she runs does.
If they are undergoing global warming, it must be due to humans using fossil fuels on those planets.
Some one needs to tell these mayors about this, and dispatch Al Gore to stop the Gorebal Warmi.... err, I mean Global Warming on those planets.
“their hot air.”
Well there’s plenty of that around.
I’m reminded of Cliff Robertson’s retort to Robert Redford in “3 Days Of The Condor” when he ask what would people want the governmnet to do if the oil ran out and they couldn’t get to work, etc.
Robertson said “they’re just going to want us to get it for them”. In other words, just invade the Mid East and take the oil.
There was an article in a “serious” magazine that suggested that we do just that.
The oil is ours anyway, we and the Brits found it, we developed the tech to get it out of the ground, transport it, refine it and we paid for it. Pay some royalties to the Arabs and tell them to STFU.
All that $4/gal gasoline has done is cause them to dig in their heels.
Even as the public becomes more aware of the distress caused by their policies, the left is actively seeking ways to make the situation worse.
They will have to quit using gasoline altogether. Once oil is sold to the refiners traceability gets to be a problem. It is like refusing to sail your ship on water that has come from the Hudson River.
Cities buy gasoline for the cars that city personnel operate and probably for certain privileged employees’ private cars and boats. Those mayors should not buy any gasoline that might be derived from unapproved sources. They can get horses for their fire wagons and garbage drays.
“No blood for Canuck oil!”
US mayors try to boycott Canadian oilsand oil ping.
are your mayors as dumb up there?
CAN WE ALL SAY A## HOLES
