Planned Parenthood's New Approach Draws Critics Planned Parenthood is building new, more stylishly appointed health centers as part of an effort to attract more-affluent patients and increase its revenue, but some critics say that Planned Parenthood is drifting away from its original mission, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Planned Parenthood has built two large new health centers, with at least five more on the way, and has opened more than two-dozen express centers, which offer faster service and sell merchandise. Many of the centers are located in suburban shopping malls.
Last year, the organization altered its mission statement, which used to say that all individuals have the right to reproductive self-determination regardless of income. Its statement now reads that the group will leverage strength through our affiliated structure to be the nations most trusted provider of sexual and reproductive health care.
Claire Keyes, an abortion provider in Pittsburgh, criticized the move, saying, Theyve made a decision to go after the young and the hip and the affluent, and theyre leaving poor women behind.
But Planned Parenthood says that by attracting people who can afford to pay full price out of pocket for services and contraception, the organization can afford to support health care for poor people, sex education for teenagers, and advocacy work. The group generated $1-billion in revenue in its most recent financial report and has $115-million in surplus cash.

I thought this excerpt was interesting:
Antiabortion groups point out that Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, reported a record $1 billion in annual revenue in its most recent financial report -- about a third of that coming from federal and state grants to care for low-income women. The nonprofit ended the year with a surplus of $115 million, or about 11% of its revenue, and net assets of $952 million.
How is it that Planned Parenthood survived without government grants from 2001-2007 when the Republicans controlled the House, the Senate and the White House?
We get those “ValuePack” things full of coupons on a regular basis, and I was absolutely stunned the other day to find an advert from PP in it!!! All slick and ‘modern’, with catch phrases like “emergency contraception” and “easy access for reproductive health care” which of course means ABORTIONS FOR ALL!!! :*(
Not many things leave me speechless, but this ad took the cake.
...which is: reducing the number of brown babies born.
Next, they’ll offer spa services.
I’ve heard also, that they try to downplay the abortion services, and talk about “women’s health”. Then they say how they have pap smears, cancer screenings, and other treatments available that are unrelated to abortion or birth control.
They haven’t “done without” anything. They’re still getting millions in subsidies from US, even though they have “excess revenue” (.orgspeak for PROFIT) in the billions.
Sounds like a killer deal.
And I suppose PP thinks this makes them more secure from protesters? Wrong again!
Two undeniable truths about liberalism:
Liberalism at its core is using force to make the responsible and innocent pay for the consequences of the irresponsible decisions of others.
Liberalism supports NO individual freedoms except those related to consequence-free sexual behavior decisions.
Abortion is the quintessential liberal issue because the MOST innocent is made to pay for, with its very life, the irresponsible sexual behavior decisions of others.
Why didn't the Nazis think of this? Those concentration camps were so drab and gray. All they needed was better architect..
After all, they were just giving certain German citizens “choice” of who should live.
I don’t understand how Planned Parenthood was able to get federal funding with the GOP in control of the Executive and Legislative branches of the government.
most of the ghouls at planned abortionhood really do see an unborn baby as a disease.
And I can't/will not understand how people that call themselves religious - Christian/Muslim/Jewish - support the wholesale murder of the unborn.
"other services" indeed...
Translation: They have fulfilled their mission of killing over 50% of all minority babies. But not enough white, middle class babies are killed. Plus, those white girls can pay more. So they have expanded their mission statement.
My wife is unfortunately temping at a PP office (not a clinic) at the moment. She’s nearly 7 months pregnant, so we saw it as an opportunity to witness to the completely lost. She brought in 3d ultrasound pictures the other day and one of the ladies response was, “wow, it’s amazing how much it looks like a baby at that point.” I don’t care how lost or sick you are, you can’t possibly make a statement like that without secretly realizing how absurd it is, so at the very least she’s forcing them from the inside to confront their own sick absurdity.
Maybe they will incorporate in their facilities some Starbucks and a variety of upscale shops and enviromentalwhacko bookshops.

*palms forehead*
There ya go.
