OS ANGELES (Reuters) - Comedian George Carlin, a counter-culture hero famed for his routines about drugs and dirty words, died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday, a spokesman said. He was 71. ADVERTISEMENT Carlin, who had a history of heart problems, died at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica about 6 p.m. PDT (9 p.m. EDT) after being admitted earlier in the afternoon for chest pains, spokesman Jeff Abraham told Reuters. Known for his edgy, provocative material, Carlin achieved status as an anti-Establishment icon in the 1970s with stand-up bits full of drug references and a routine about seven dirty words you could not say on television. A regulatory battle over a radio broadcast of his "Filthy Words" routine ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

Always thought he was bright but hated his politics until he did an absolute crush routine on environmentalists, suburban tree huggers. I saved it on my XM radio and play it at least once a week.
Kind of like GTA IV, and the rest of the Grand Theft Auto series. I love the games, and they do sometimes hit out at the left, but I have to avoid the "conservative" radio or I might be disinclined to play. For example, I heard them making fun of Rush's deafness today and I quickly had the cab driver change the channel.

Yes he did. As a friend of mine put it, New Jersey is four things: diners, malls, gas stations, and toll booths.

Intresting story here. My sister and me like Carlin, granted I didnt care for the anti-christain/military stuff. But I tune that out. He came to Little Rock in 1999 so I bought a ticket for the show for her and me. I was in my late 20’s she in her early 20’s. Anyway this was in January. We are starting out to the show and notice the weather nasty, tornado sirens going off. But we go anyway, the show went on, it was pretty good. When we get out we find out a tornado had hit a few blocks away. I guess GOD didn’t think much of his comedy.

I agree with you and his newer stand up wasn’t that good, however.. the man died.. can we let the body be buried before we start busting on him? Its poor taste.

George Carlin carried out his life in poor taste.
Carlin became a bottom feeder.

I guess he was posting in the lines of my own thinking so I just read it as I saw it, too.
Im completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death. There's a good chunk of truth in this statement...

Yes, there is truth in that statement if you are nihilistic.

Ah, RIP. Oxymorons will never be the same.

George Carlin carried out his life in poor taste. He did it his way, and deserves credit for being a KMA comedian, who wasn't afraid to offend the sensibilities of polite society.
And he was funny, period.
To: PugetSoundSoldier
I agree with your comment, as well as your clever tag-line.
To: period end of story
Bingo! Im so F’N pissed the man died. He got clean, he was doing well.. Grrrr.
