New York Times Outs CIA Operative
NewsBusters.org ^ | June 22, 2008 - 10:12 ET | Mick Wright |

In an astonishing stroke of irony, the New York Times has outed the name of the CIA operative who interrogated 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, over the objections of CIA Director Michael V. Hayden and a lawyer representing the operative.

Agency officials and legal counsel told the Times that publishing the agent's name would "invade his privacy and put him at risk of retaliation from terrorists or harassment from critics of the agency."

In an Editor's Note linked from the story on KSM's interrogation, the Times defended its decision by stating that "other government employees" had been "named publicly in books and published articles" or had chosen to go public themselves, by explaining that its policy "is to withhold the name of a news subject only very rarely," and by arguing the operative's name "was necessary for the credibility and completeness of the article."

Times reporter Scott Shane describes his scoop as "the closest look to date beneath the blanket of secrecy that hides the program from terrorists and from critics who accuse the agency of torture."

The CIA apparently believes that by publishing the operative's name, the Times put the agent at risk for retaliatory strikes from such "critics" and terrorists, despite his here-described lack of participation in the agency's "harsh interrogation methods."

Of course, this is just the latest in a long string of Times articles that have leaked classified and guarded information critical to America's security and that of its people and public servants. Alert readers have long since stopped expecting any level of consistency from the same liberal media that was obsessed with the naming of Valerie Plame (though they've been considerably less obsessed with the actual source of Robert Novak's column, Richard Armitage).

I don’t blame you. Besides, Obama would say that the New York Times is protected by the 1st Amendment, even if it commits treason. However, if you use a gun to protect your home, Obama would say that you are not protected by the 2nd amendment or applicable state law. He’s a socialist, anti-capitalist, far left-wing demagogue. Obama in the Oval Office would be a bigger threat to the security of the US than Usama bin Laden.

“Obama in the Oval Office would be a bigger threat to the security of the US than Usama bin Laden.”

I very much agree with you on this. The cloak he wears is far finer and much more dense (to hide what is beneath)... than that of Bin Laden.

You know, when a vulture is picking at a rotting corpse, he will only allow you to get so close before he flies away.

This is exactly what we see with the liberals. Slowly killing off and devouring our Republic, at times in blatant form but only to an extent minimally noticeable. When it comes to full public view, these Democrat vultures are too cowardly, knowing the great weakness of their ideology, to continue feeding in plain sight.

Democrats will never openly campaign on their true beliefs, which include the destruction of liberty, hatred for the military, Marxist redistribution of wealth, blame America and Christianity first, and the murder of babies.

And Barack Obama, like the vulture-kings at the New York Times, will never stand up like a man and admit his true beliefs.

“If the C.I.A. had any balls they would just kill the N.Y. Times editors and send a message to the rest of our pathetic unAmerican news operatives to not go too far in their unAmerican agenda.”

Is that you Vladimir?

Well you don’t see too many Russian “newspersons” contributing to the downfall of Russia now do ya sweetie?
The N.Y. Times creates lies and prints stuff they should not and at times are a detriment to our society.
But hey, maybe you are right and the times should list ALL the names of our C.I.A. operatives worldwide so our enemies can kill them all.
That what ya want there sweetie?

First of all - I ain’t your sweetie.

Second of all - there are treason laws.
We can enforce them without resorting to tactics that would imitate Putin.

What traitors!

I thought the whole Plame “outting” was bogus anyway based on the fact she hadn’t been covert for 6 years and the law was 5 years? Then we have an individual who appears to be covert right NOW, and these lib asses do this!!

I agree. Shut’em down pending an investigation. The ‘pending investigation’ part can last a year or so. I the mean time they are SHUT DOWN.

Treason in the United States can only occur during declared war.

Which is why Hanoi Jane Fonda was not prosecuted upon her return from DRNV...
