Never buy into the Democrat's propaganda. There was nothing wrong with the Butterfly ballot. Making the charge that algore voters were too stupid to know how to vote for algore is an insult even to algore voters. There's no evidence of anyone voting incorrectly, Buchanan got the votes of people, who wanted to vote for him, as did algore.

Bottom line, the "butterfly ballot fiasco" is pure propaganda.

“Bottom line, the “butterfly ballot fiasco” is pure propaganda.”

Or may not.

I’ve a friend who lives there. He said prior to the election a very large group of people who called themselves the “Condo Commandos” were holding rallies and meetings for Algore with fairly significant participation. They even passed out voter information packets that told people how to vote for Al. These packets were quite explicit describing the page and location of where to punch the hole for Algore. Along the lines of turn to page two, on the left side, count down three and punch.

Problem was, they used a draft ballot to prepare the instruction and the actual ballot transposed Algore and Buchanan.

The Condo Commandos held emergency meeting, went door to door with new instructions, etc. But there was no way to make sure that everyone got the new instruction.

I trust that my friend told me the truth as he knows it but I have no way of verifying this. It is however consistent with the fact that the democrats were calling people on election day, even before the polls closed, telling people to call this number since there is a reason to think your vote may have gone for Buchanan instead of Gore.

I remember Wexler complaining on a cable talk show how, on the night of the election he was up all night taking phone calls from constituents who thought they mistakenly voted for PJB.

My first reaction was that he was lying and my second was that it was a certainty that some reporter would get hold of his phone records to check out his claim.

How silly of me.
