“McCain has voiced his opposition to this treaty.”

Was he for it before he was against it? Because he didn’t show any opposition when he could have.

“John McCain has already incurred serious negatives with patriotic United States citizens with his all-out support for giving amnesty to illegal aliens. Now Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid points out that McCain has another black mark — his failure to oppose the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) in the Senate. This smack-down of US sovereignty will offend the same group of voters that were incensed about the thankfully failed amnesty. From U.N. Double Talk From Straight Talker McCain:

….The measure, which creates an independent source of revenue for the United Nations, is now pending in the Senate, of which McCain is a member. This is not an obscure or irrelevant issue for him. He could have a big impact on the fate of this treaty, which he has described as providing “a comprehensive regime of law and order in the world’s oceans and seas” and serving “as an umbrella convention under which rules governing all uses of the oceans and their resources are established.”

The treaty creates three new international institutions—the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, the International Seabed Authority, and the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf. U.S. companies would pay taxes or “fees” for access to oil, gas and minerals. But such access would be determined by the treaty organizations, not the weakened U.S. Navy. Testimony shows that it could also affect economic and industrial activities on land.

There is growing controversy over when, or if, the treaty will come up for a full Senate vote. It has passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee….

Our government is permitting, even encouraging, so many policies which have the potential to destroy the United States, it is hard to tell which one will be our death knell — failure to secure our borders, devaluing citizenship, social engineering through punitive taxation, outsourcing of our critical infrastructure, borrowing money for the Iraq war from China, sacrificing our sovereignty through NAFTA and LOST. But we urge every thinking voter to read Cliff’s article and become informed about this particular danger. Another plus — Cliff has assembled a collection of McCain’s public statements that give a telling picture of what his presidency might be like.”

In fact it was back in October 2007 when he voiced his opposition to it. Your article dates from January 2008.
