Well, it looks like the only “college” they’ll be doing now will be correspondence courses from a jail cell. I wonder if they think it was worth it now?

Rule #1 of hacking: Don’t get caught.

And they are so young. I don’t want to think about what will happen to these two in prison. (shudder)

They’re not going to prison, they’re going to college. Although in Cal, prison may be preferable. Probation and a slapping.

“These students are not accused of just committing simple ‘Ferris Bueller’-type offenses,” Deputy District Attorney Chuck Lawhorn told the Register. “These are very serious crimes.”

Hey, the DA knows which movie plot has come to life!

Actually, these are Ferris Bueller type offenses. It’s just that the movie was a comedy, so Ferris never got busted!

Basically, if they get jail time...we the tax payer (if we were stupid Californians) would pay for their time in jail. If I were the judge, to avoid taking even more money out of the pocket of citizens...I give them both six months in a county jail, then tell both of them that they can’t attend any college in the US for at least ten years...and the icing on the cake...no contact with computers for the same ten year period (otherwise, take a 4-year period in jail). The punks can get a job with some roofing company or pouring concrete...and learn a honest profession.

There’s also a related thread not too distant with one guy facing 38 years for changing his marks. His first mistake, changing them all to A’s...Hello captain obvious. 38 years is pretty steep though.

We did something similar in college but didn’t change marks, usually sending interesting emails to students from teachers, with replies. By interesting i mean love letters, cuz the next day in class, the two of them looking at eachother was priceless.

But if they don’t end up doing time, you can bet silicon valley will want these guys on their payroll for testing security. theres potential.

Actually, this is the same as “War Games” with Matthew Broderick. He gets sent to the principals office and while there, slides open the secretary’s desk and gets that week’s password.

I guess we should be grateful they didn't break into the WOPR and try playing Global Thermonuclear War! Man, that was a great movie, with some of the best casting I've ever seen. The AMC network has been replaying it recently. Dabney Coleman was superb. That bulky military commander was great. Broderick stole the show as the computer kid. And Ally Sheedy was perfect as the girlfriend.
