Because of a little laxative in a cake? Not sure I buy it. Wonder if they ended up in the hospital before or after they discovered what was in the cake.
The dosage was uncontrolled and was probably much higher than recommended. It could cause severe gastric pain that could be mistaken for a much more serious problem.
The kids don’t deserve prison time, but they should spend the summer working their butts off doing community service. Preferably cleaning bedpans in a nursing home.
Unless someone was seriously injured, they shouldn’t have their lives ruined for a thoughtless prank.

it’s either mind over matter or the teachers knew what happened and wanted to build a good workman’s comp. case.

The teachers would require hospitalization for dehydration and also for testing if the punk didn’t fess up right away about what he used to poison the teachers. He admitted to the laxative, but he potentially could have put anything in the cake. How is anyone to know for sure?

Depends on how much laxative was in the cake. Too much, and the results can quite literally kill you in te absence of supportive treatment.
And with the salmonella scare, they might have gone in to make sure it wasn’t that.
Side effects of an overdose of 'a little laxative' are chest pain, fainting, rectal bleeding, lack of a bowel movement, severe nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps, etc.
True, 100% story.... I had to prepare for a colonoscopy. Because I am sensitive digestively the doctor reduced even the half prep for me. After taking ONE dulcolax tablet I became incredibly ill, horrible spasms, incredible pain, I was literally on the floor screaming in agony. There is a funny part though. My then 16 year old called 911 and the first words out of her mouth were 'Uhm, my mom took some drugs and now she is sick and I think we need an ambulance." Bet you can guess who got there first - yep the police. Thankfully the EMT was right behind him and when he saw what I had taken he explained everything to the cop and took me in.
So, yes I completely believe that it could have put them in the hospital because it happened to me - on one pill.
Probably dehydration. It's what make dysentery and other digestive diseases so deadly. It can be a very deadly condition if not taken seriously.
In addition, some of those laxatives aren't so gentle. We don't know if the teachers were subject to other medications. Mixing laxatives with some medications can cause serious problems as well. Finally, the cramping that can occur for someone who "isn't prepared" to take a laxative could make one wish they were dead. We're talking about some serious pain.
Yep, I'd be worried if I was one of these idiot "young, prosecutable adults".
Liberals with government jobs and bargain medical end up in the hospital for hangnails.
There was a time when adults could handle cases like this without calling the cops.
Being someone who use to suffer from lower GI troubles, I can see where it would cause serious problems.
