Where was God when the Floods of 2008 came? People rose up like the flood waters.

A young man got caught in the river's rage while trying to recover more of his folks belongings. He died in those merciless waters. At the rate the river was moving, it boggles the mind that his body could be recovered. Yet instead of being swept away, he was found relatively close by. God was hanging onto him for his family's sake.

Perfect strangers were driving up to people's houses and would just start loading belongings. No questions asked, just pitching in. Getting people and parts of their life to safety. God was the matchmaker, giving people that could help to people who needed it.

A middle aged man and an 80 year old neighbor braved rapidly moving flood waters to try and save calves. The cows and their calves were stranded and the cows, although they could swim, would not leave their calves behind. These two brave souls put their faith in God and rounded up the calves. They were put in the boat and the cows swam to safety following their young.

Perhaps next time He can do something with the weather, like in the old days.

Also, God helps those who help themselves. Folks who chose - yes, chose - to do nothing are still waiting for big daddy gub’mint to provide a big giant teat to suckle.

I refer to an event that happened 3 years ago.

Luk 13:1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

Luk 13:2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way?

Luk 13:3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them–do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem?

Luk 13:5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

Blue Letter Bible.

A text we should all remember with fear and trembling in the face of tragedy.

And then there was this guy...

A farmer is in Iowa during a flood. The river is overflowing, with water surrounding the farmer’s home up to his front porch. As he is standing there, a boat comes up, The man in the boat says “Jump in, I’ll take you to safety.”

The farmer crosses his arms and says stubbornly, “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The boat goes away. The water rises to the second floor. Another boat comes up, the man says to the farmer who is now in the second story window, “Jump in, I’ll save you.”

The farmer again says, “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The boat goes away. Now the water is up to the roof. As The farmer stands on the roof, a helicopter comes over, and drops a ladder. The pilot yells down to the farmer “I’ll save you, climb the ladder.”

The farmer says “Nope, I put my trust in God.”

The helicopter goes away. The water comtinues to rise and sweeps the farmer off the roof. He drowns.

The farmer goes to heaven. God sees him and says “What are you doing here?”

The farmer says “I put my trust in you and you let me down.”

God says, “What do you mean, let you down? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!!!”

Probably telling someone to build a boat and gather up animals. I'll bet that guy wishes he'd listened.

I guess I just don't get it. You killed him, but thanks for keeping the body around?

Houses, propane tanks, livestock and much more have been found many many miles down river. I don’t believe God killed him. I believe the blessing was that God kept that body close and visible so that he could be found.

Grief is often easier for people to deal with when they have a body to bury. From that point of view, the situation is a blessing for the family.

It reminds me of the old Carlin skit, thank God for every touchdown, but you never hear "Jesus made me fumble on the line of scrimmage."

He is ALWAYS in control.

I read in the Bible, heaven is beyond words ... to awesome to describe. Death when HE determines it, is a blessing.

“God is with us always. In good times, bad times and complete disasters. He lifts us up when we fall. He gives us hope when there seems to be none. He sends us to our neighbors and perfect strangers, so that we may be of help to them. He holds our grief when we ask Him to. He gives us his love and the understanding that we are not alone. Not in the raging waters, not in the rescue of animals, not in the heartbreak of not being with family in tragic times. He lets us know that He is everywhere.”

“Where was God when the flood of 2008 came? Why, He was right there. With each and every person that wanted Him by their side.”

Yes, those that WANT HIM will have Him.

I believe He uses these tragedies to call attention to HIM and to bring people TO HIM.

Ah, but sometimes you do fumble on the line of scrimmage and who’s to say that it wasn’t for humbling, etc.? There is more to everything than the naked eye can see. God corrects as well as protects.

Imagine that ... people trusting in God to give them the strength to do what needs to be done, and then doing it ... and then some.

I firmly believe the Left’s arrogant disdain of ‘fly-over’ country is because of the independent ‘can do’ attitude exhibited by the inhabitants of that area. If they ever want help, they want a hand-up, not a hand-out. When our country was becoming the great nation it is today, the hard work and innovation of Central USA lead the way. Of course that was before there were ‘welfare queens’ created by the ‘Great Society’ and the ensuing multitudes of entitlement programs designed to splinter the family unit.

I better stop now ... gr-r-r-r.

One should stay put and wait for the Government to help you, just like they did in New Orleans.

Ugh ... I hate that statement. It is not supported in any scripture yet people quote it as if it is.
