BERKELEY -- About 200 protesters rallied on the ground below a tree-top encampment of protesters in a grove of trees next to Memorial Stadium this afternoon as a judge was expected to rule on the fate of an athletic training center planned for the site.
Two of the protesters were arrested, while workers hired by UC Berkeley dismantled more of the tree-sitters' roost, cutting ropes, removing supplies and tearing out improvised structures.
By early afternoon, most of the protesters' ropes were gone, and one of two large platforms high in the trees toppled to the ground.
The year-and-a-half-old tree protest is being staged to stop UC's plan to cut 44 trees to make way for an athletic training center expected to cost at least $125 million. A judge is to rule today on three lawsuits seeking to halt the project.
Stephen Fiorenza, 23, was arrested this afternoon for vandalism after officials said he cut a plastic tie linking barricades separating police from protesters at the grove. The move allowed another man to slip past the barricade, climb a utility pole and slide along a rope to a tree - to the cheers of supporters below.
Shortly after that, protester Matthew Gillam-Lewis, 22, was arrested after he tried to grab a cutting tool from the hands of an arborist on the other side of a barricade. Other protesters charged officers making the arrest.

The easy answer to tree-sitters is simply to kill the tree... cut a ring of bark out around it. Then tell them to have fun sitting in a dead tree.
Those are not the adjectives I would use. Foolish or stupid come to mind.
It’s over, the tree huggers win, for now, Judge rules to have university go back to drawing board, there are things wrong with the plan for the area, 129 page documnet, multiple actions covered.. what a mess..
meanwhile one nutcase is on top of a tree,, and wigging out.. what a zoo
sonds like the university is going to clear the trees of all the fruits and nuts regardless.. poor trees. too bad they can’t leave a few nuts hanging their for memory sake. :-}
Give me a hint, where did you find that?
I wouldn’t be there having feces and urine thrown on me. These are people with the intellect and behavior of animals. If that is the way they want to behave I would counter in kind. I would animal trank-them and maybe put a net under them if I were in a good mood.
Ironically Jonathan Swift predicted these guys in one of the Gulliver's Travels, To the land of the Houynhms. The Houynhms were advanced horse-like creatures with a well developed social structure. The tree-dwelling, feces-throwing human lowlifes were known as "yahoos."
Wonder if anyone at Berkeley is literate enough to have read this story.
Her *friends* call her "Dumpster Muffin"?
Bunch of treetards
RoundUp...suprised it aint been used...except for more lefties who use it freely with the swastika golf green
Oh yeah, all the really dumb Berkeleyites moved to Ohio.
Flood the tree with Pepperspray. Those moonbats will leave in a heartbeat.
Potato gun.
Perhaps a few large, hungry pythons could be placed in the inhabited trees. Nothing like a little biodiversity to liven up the evenings.
The one they arrested yeaterday called herself “Millipede”.
"Workers and police were pelted several times by human urine and excrement thrown by tree-sitters Tuesday, Mogulof added."
LOL! Biodiversity why didn’t I think of that.
Probably not, unless someone accidentally placed it in the Chomsky bin at the local bookstore/coffee house. :)
