Yep! That’s my take as well. Frankly, I’m not a big fan of Catholicism, but I don’t like these efforts to trash the church.
It reminds me of the theory relating to Hitler’s moves in Germany. He came after a number of groups, but some folks didn’t oppose him. And when he came after them there was nobody left to defend them.
If Opie and Hanks can focus on one religion and trash it, what’s to stop them from doing it to others, or all religion?
I’ll take a pass on this nonsense.

Certainly not worth the present day price of a ticket.
If they want to protest the war & protest the military;

If you mean as an actor and director, you and I differ considerably. He is awesome. Robin Williams is the over-rated one.
