“Dems to Bush: Drop dead on oil drilling”

Hmmmmmm. Imagine that!

Or, as I posted previously on another thread ...

I think that we need to take this issue to the ‘RATS.

This is a THIRTY YEAR OLD issue, since the first oil
‘crisis’ in the late 70’s under jimmah cahtah ...

The GOP is the party with SOLUTIONS.

The ‘RATS are the party OPPOSED to those solutions !!

Stick around, if you are willing to have a reasonable discussion.

Yes, many feel betrayed by Bush and the Repubs, to some extent myself also. In his defense, the extreme effort to destroy him on the part of the hard left is nothing less than treasonous.

My frustration is that Bush did not fight back. They let the MSM define him, hence here is what we get. Bitter, no. Frustrated, yes.

If you think the Repubs are the reason we have not built a refinery in the US in 30 years and virtually all of our domestic oil is off limits to drilling, then you are not paying attention. Since the early 90's domestic production in both Canada and Mexico has increased by over 70%, in the US our production has decreased by 22%. And we wonder why gas is $4.39?

BTW, I live in Seattle, used to own property on Orcas Island, is that where your handle is derived?

Clown, Venzuela doesn’t have as many vehicles, roads, or commuters as the US, nor does it have as much DEMAND.
(Ever hear of supply and demand?)
Also, OPEC, those nice fun loving arabs, are our main source of oil.
In addition, we do NOT have refining capacity for oil we produce ourselves, we export it to be refined and then REIMPORT our own oil at cost.

You're not inoculated against anything if you commit heresy. That's what McCain would be doing, in the eyes of the global warming doges.

"it's hard for a politician to convince the sheeple they are smarter than scientists"

Politicians aren't smart or intelligent. They may be savvy, at best.

Scientist (real scientists) are very intelligent. They do not represent the GW movement. some academics and dolts on the periphery of real science do. It's a toss up if a schmuck pol could top a schmuck academic.

Academics and scienists generally support GW. Its wishful thinking to state otherwise. So I don't accept your premise. Doesn't matter anyway - the public's view is that scientists support GW so its hopeless for a politician to argue they are smarter than scientists. So it will take a mass of scientists to refute GW not politicians before we get anywhere.

Won’t happen. This is the ‘gee golly we’ll ALL work together and I’ll buddy-hug Fat Teddy and the whole crew...” President.

I get letters from the RNC all the time soliciting donations. Are they freakin’ kidding me? Like I’m going to help fund a bunch of spineless, milquetoast wimps???

I’m sick of the lot of ‘em.

Reminiscent of the elder Bush tenure when Tip O’Neill bragged in the press that “any budget sent by the Administration was DOA.”

“If the GOP can’t make political hay out of the Democrats steadfast refusal to allow more drilling to help alleviate foreign dependence on oil and the trend in oil and fuel prices, then the Republican Party doesn’t deserve to survive after the November election. It’s way overdue to take the gloves off and start beating and kicking these liberal socialists in the head like an extreme fighting match.”

I’ve echoed your sentiments half a dozen times on FR, essentially verbatim. If this stupid anti-drilling, anti-American obstinacy cannot be defeated, the Reps flat out suck, and they deserve to lose, like it or not.

“I think the Dems are going to eat it on this issue. It’s a pocketbook issue and voters know which party is not interested in helping them out.”

If any only if this issue can be communicated on a third grade level. That remains an open question, IMO.

“Unless gas prices come way down before election day, I predict this issue is going to hurt the Dems. It looks like $4 per gallon is the tipping point where most people are going to say end the drilling bans.”

I don’t see it. It’s all Bush, all the time. Everything that is happening now is his fault. Every senator/congressman is now an oil exploration expert. Unless and until the present pain is brought down to a third-grade comprehension level, I most seriously doubt the public will be able to connect present conditions to anything that Dems could have imagined doing. They will vote to restrict oil drilling even further, believeing this is the only solution. It’s absolutely insane, but there you have it. All Bush’s fault, all the time. It happened while he was president, so it must be his fault. We displace that level of thinking or this issue goes in the Dem direction, I’m afraid.

Money trumps ideology, but only if the Demo voters have an IQ greater than 75, which is doubtful.

that a law would be enacted to state that every single drop of oil drawn from these AMERICAN wells remain in AMERICA, No exportation!

A ban on exporting any commodity would be unconstitutional, not to mention economically IDIOTIC.

I don’t think it would be unconstitutional, it was done for the Original Alaskan North Slope oil that was transported through the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System.

It was idiotic and the the ban was finally removed in 1996.

Upset conditions drove the price we received (and corresponding royalties/taxes) very low in 1986, 1988, 1994. In 1998 & 1999 removal of the ban helped keep our prices at least above cost while only exporting about 5.5% of the oil.

Since June of 2000 100% of the Alaskan North Slope Oil remains in the US in spite of the ban being removed.

After all we are the closest user and the world’s biggest importer. We are going to use oil produced in Alaska.

You are correct. I was thinking of the prohibition on taxes or duties on articles exported from any state.

I wish I could get more conservative to understand we have already been through this learning curve.

The previous exporting ban limited the development of our oil fields by slowing down the investment by the oil companies. It added risk to their cost evaluations. We have already experienced Alaskan Oil Development for more than a decade without the ban and the oil stays in the US.

American taxpayers should say drop dead to democrats.

If obama wins, I suggest a taxpayer strike. Who is going to pay for your social programs now?

We need to say it to the nonbelievers, not just those who know the truth.
