The Truth on Democrats' False and Misleading "68 Million Acres" Claims
GOP.gov ^ | June 17, 2008 | House Republican Conference Call

Posted on 06/18/2008 1:15:42 PM PDT by bugseye

Democrat claims that leases are “sitting idle” are FALSE and MISLEADING.Here are the facts:

FACT: Once a lease is secured, a long, comprehensive exploration process begins that“can require years of mapping, testing, drilling and construction” and can cost “millions or even billions of dollars.” Bidding on, paying for and securing a lease is not a license to drill, nor can production occur immediately. Even after “time delays” associated with initial leasing and drilling of exploratory wells, it has taken nearly a decade to produce energy on leases in the past. Democrats mislead when they say a classification of “not in production” is the same as “sitting idle.”

Wall Street Journal: “Companies don’t know how much oil is under the lands they lease, so they buy up large swaths in hope that a fraction will work out. Much of the area that isn’t producing, they say, doesn’t have oil or gas in commercially viable quantities. Moreover, bringing a new field into production can require years of mapping, testing, drilling and construction – during which time the land would show up in statistics as being ‘not in production,’ even as companies spend millions or even billions of dollars to bring it on line.”

The Dem talking points are:
1. You can’t drill your way out of this crises
2. If you drill now, we still won’t have production for ten years
3. The oil companies have millions of acres of leases that they’re not using now.

Those are also Bill O'Reilly's talking points

O'reilly is a schmuck. The only thing I would agree with him about the oil companies is that they are no benign. That is not to say they are intrinsically evil. But the interests of the American people are not at the top of their list. Multi national corps have allegiance to no nation. Only the bottom line.

That's not a bad thing. But it's foolish to be a mindless defender of them in the name of free markets. If anyone thinks there is truly a free market when it comes to oil, they're delusional. Supply and demand can't exist when supply is made meaningless by manipulation.

Democrats in Congress don’t know what they’re talking about. There are a few exceptions, those who willfully lie.

Incidentally, they’re way out of touch with mainstream America on the amnesty for illegals issue as well. Unfortunately, Juan McCain has thrown that perfectly good issue out the window.

I do not see what anyone sees in O'Reilly. I think he is just Lou Dobbs with a hair piece.

opeative word here:

” gonads”

Unless they suddenly sprout them or find them on sale at the locat Wal Mart I’m not counting on it. The President and R’s in congress will be brow beaten, retreat to the corner, and assume the fetal position. I have no-zip-zero-zilch-faith in those weaklings.

I am curious where the claim that there are 14 years worth of oil on those leases came from? Which lease has that oil?

The claim that we can’t drill our way out of this crises, may be partially true. But, drilling can relieve a lot of the problem. Throw in some nukes, coal and tar sand, you may have a way to bridge over to alternatives. The market can develop and spot winners and losers much quicker than government monopoly. Government has only one option, more taxes.

“2. If you drill now, we still won’t have production for ten years.”

Remember when we were talking about attacking Iran because they had WMD’s, the Libs kept screaming ‘THERE ARE NO WMD’S”.
When the attack was inevitable THEY started screaming “IF WE ATTACK THEM THEY WILL USE THEIR WMD’S ON US”

And they continually get away with this BS with a lap dog, willing press and Congress etc.....
DISGUSTING....

Put your ‘flames’ away, that should read IRAQ not IRAN, but the point is there.
