[Rockaway, NJ] -- A fall into Purgatory Chasm couldn't take down the Rev. Matthew McNamara many years ago, and a bolt of lightning that ripped through him from head to toe this week was no match either.
"I feel blessed," McNamara said yesterday from his hospital bed at Morristown Memorial Hospital, where he is in good condition and being treated for burns to his head and foot.
The Pequannock resident was hit by lightning Monday night as he was readying Camp Marcella, a state-run summer camp for blind and visually impaired children, for the campers' arrival next week. The 47-year-old maintenance coordinator was on the grounds of the Rockaway Township camp in Morris County around 6:30 p.m. when the storm kicked up.
Lightning hit his head, burning a hole in his hat and passing through his body. The bolt blasted McNamara's left sneaker off his foot and knocked him out, and to the ground, authorities said.
"I'm hurting all over," McNamara said yesterday. But the first thing he thought when he regained consciousness a day earlier was that God loved him.
...Nicknamed "Fix-It Matt," McNamara has been working for the state Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired since January 2001, said Suzanne Esterman, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Health and Human Services. He works at Camp Marcella during the summer.
..."I told him he has nine lives and he's used 12 of them," McNamara's mother, Eleanor said. "He comes through these things. Somebody's watching over him."

Set ZOT to STUNE
I don’t think the heavy stuff is coming in for quite a while.
Stune?
Lol!
You’ve got to admire his spirit. Most people would see getting struck by lightening as a sign of Divine displeasure, and a descent into Purgatory as not a very good thing.
YESSSSS!!!!! GMTA!
It took four posts for that pic, we’re slipping.
“You’re not a man! You’re a Bishop!”
I bet he would feel even more blessed, if it hadn’t of happened at all...
“My name is Fred and I’m just a man, same as you are.”
Was it something he said ? ?
Or thought.
