In fairness to AlGore it should be pointed out that he has Electric Heat.

The 10% increase in electric use was just because of Global COOLING! :p

Why not take the unused footprints away thereby reducing the total amount of foot prints left on the planet?

There was discussion along these lines at another blog. There were two lines of thought. One guy claimed to be an environmentalist and was pushing the idea of biomass for fuel. Take the carbon in the biomass, burn the biomass for energy production (electricity), and recapture the carbon (CO2) in other plants. He claimed this was carbon-neutral, and a much better way to go than anything else.

A pro-nuclear guy (your truly) proposed another line of reasoning. Take the biomass and cover it over, thereby sequestering the carbon, and use nuclear to generate the electricity. The first proposal is carbon neutron, the second is carbon-negative. If we're really concerned about adding more carbon to the biosphere, it would seem that going with carbon-negative systems would be a way to reduce the overall burden being born by the ecosystem. But everyone ignores the obvious solution.

Probably the solar panels he installed caused the increased energy usage. Our local gas company had a similar experience. They put solar panels on the roof of their HQ building as a publicity stunt. Energy usage for the building went up as a result. So a few years later they ripped those panels out. It was a losing proposition.
