BIDEN RISING IN VEEPSTAKES (McCain wants Lieberman? Get me a rope...)

BIDEN RISING IN VEEPSTAKES

June 14, 2008 -- BEFORE multimillionaire Democratic power broker James A. Johnson quit as Sen. Barack Obama's chief vice presidential screener, the name that came to the fore in his internal discussions was 65-year-old, six-term Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware.

Biden, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, made a good impression in his losing bid for the presidential nomination this year. The downside on him is that he talks too much. But he provides expertise and experience in national security that Obama lacks and, as a Catholic, adds cultural diversity to the ticket.

A footnote: Presidential supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton who are possibilities for vice president include Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell. The leading Clintonite for vice president, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, has definitively ruled himself out.

SOURCES close to Sen. John McCain say the Republican presidential candidate likes the idea of Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman, re-elected from Connecticut as an independent in 2006, or former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge for vice president - if he could get away with it. The political consensus is that McCain couldn't get away with either, and he knows it.

Lieberman, one of McCain's closest Senate friends, vigorously supports him for president and sometimes joins him on the campaign trail. However, Lieberman opposes Republican policy on nearly everything except Iraq, where he has backed the war effort.

Ridge, who served as President Bush's secretary of homeland security, is a generally conservative Republican except for being pro-choice on abortion. He was considered for vice president in 1996 and 2000, but was ruled out both times because of the abortion issue.

I know, I am dealing with a crazed nutcase on another thread!

They make up stuff and then accuse you of things you never said.

Geesh.

Michael Steele is a GREAT CHOICE! I’ve heard him speak twice recently. He’s dynamic, articulate, savvy, and CONSERVATIVE! He would at least make the McCain ticket potentially palatable.

For all those people that will do anything to keep Obama out of the White House there is one thing McCain should do to guarantee a win and all you McCain supporters should encourage it. And that is pick Hillary for his running mate.

It is a no brainer. McCain/Clinton win in a landslide.

I got my money on Crist from Florida. If McCain wants Lieberman, he can make him SecDef.

Colin Powell was too chummy with the Saudis for me.

Colin Powell grew up in Brooklyn speaking, of all things, Yiddish. He's just fine.

One thing for sure, "That Woman" is not going away quietly!

Where the heck is "that woman" anyway? I haven't seen her face on the TV in over a week.

Not that I'm complaining.

“Biden and Nobama 08 can plagerize each others speeches.”

ROFL!

Obama needs to insist on Biden being ‘clean’.

“McCain should do to guarantee a win and all you McCain supporters should encourage it. And that is pick Hillary for his running mate.

NO - A REAL SOLUTION: MCCAIN SAYS HE IS A “ONE-TERM ONLY” PRESIDENT.

That way the Hillary folks can seriously think about
Mccain 08/Hillary 2012, while us conservatives can dream about a conservative GOP candidate in 2012. Jindhal/Palin or Pence/Sanford!

We would all sweep mcCain in as our ‘one-term placeholder’ to defeat that upstart Mocha Marxist Obama.

He picks Lieberman and Barr will be in double digits.
the base will revolt and/or get revolted. So it wont happen.

The real issue is RINO VP or conservative VP.

We need to demand Sanford as the VP.

Michael Steele, I love that guy. He’d be a great choice. IMHO, of course.

Obama will get at least the same proportion of the Jewish vote that Gore did (butterfly ballots not withstanding). It’s nuts.

The Jewish community hates Bush and McCain as the third term is selling well.

The way I see it right now politically Obama can hardly go wrong with a VP pick. Even if they are slightly tainted by scandal (Dodd, Biden) they will get a pass and anyone that brings it up will be dodging ricochets. Plus McCain wants to keep the campaign above board and Keating is always lurking in the wings.

For McCain it is harder, much harder. A conservative will not agree with McCain's policies. A run of the mill liberal will not help. I don't think he has any good choices politically (outside of Hillary which would be a lock on victory in November.)

My choice would be Romney but I don't think it will happen. McCain is too ego centric to pick someone that might set him straight.

Colin Powell is another black republican who isn’t sure who he is going to support yet for President, so I would have a hard time making him the number 2 republican in the USA since he’s not even sure if he’s a republican or not.

Link to Colin Powell saying on Meet The Press that it’s “too soon” for him to endorse the Republican candidate for President.

I like Joe Liberman but if he gets the VP slot, we know for sure that the whole election was just a fix.....they want us to give up on politics and sit on our hands and stop having all these silly "ideals" that we hold so dear.....

sometimes....I am just about there.....

If McCain picks a true conservative, relatively known, it might give staunch conservatives some hope. I don’t hold this likely though. Thompson or Hunter would be my choices here; moreso Hunter.

Yeah.....what you said!
