BIDEN RISING IN VEEPSTAKES (McCain wants Lieberman? Get me a rope...)

BIDEN RISING IN VEEPSTAKES

June 14, 2008 -- BEFORE multimillionaire Democratic power broker James A. Johnson quit as Sen. Barack Obama's chief vice presidential screener, the name that came to the fore in his internal discussions was 65-year-old, six-term Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware.

Biden, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, made a good impression in his losing bid for the presidential nomination this year. The downside on him is that he talks too much. But he provides expertise and experience in national security that Obama lacks and, as a Catholic, adds cultural diversity to the ticket.

A footnote: Presidential supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton who are possibilities for vice president include Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana, Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida and Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell. The leading Clintonite for vice president, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, has definitively ruled himself out.

SOURCES close to Sen. John McCain say the Republican presidential candidate likes the idea of Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman, re-elected from Connecticut as an independent in 2006, or former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge for vice president - if he could get away with it. The political consensus is that McCain couldn't get away with either, and he knows it.

Lieberman, one of McCain's closest Senate friends, vigorously supports him for president and sometimes joins him on the campaign trail. However, Lieberman opposes Republican policy on nearly everything except Iraq, where he has backed the war effort.

Ridge, who served as President Bush's secretary of homeland security, is a generally conservative Republican except for being pro-choice on abortion. He was considered for vice president in 1996 and 2000, but was ruled out both times because of the abortion issue.

If Lieberman is the Republican VP, does that mean he would still vote for Harry Reid to organize the Senate?

The Senate would be 50/50, with Cheney breaking ties, without Lieberman.

No. If Lieberman switched, then McCain would probably switch the other way. /s

I never thought I would live long enough to see this kind of shit.

Under the circumstances, I cannot complain about your description. Neither can I. Shows you we are now down to a One Party System.

I am not going to fall the the Republicrat or Demican ticket.

Time to start anew!

I would opt for Michael STeel and non one else...he is smart, has values he does not cancel for the color of his skin and he is just an all around balanced man..It would give us some hope in an otherwise dreary line up.

Wasn’t Biden the one who said that Obama was a clean, bright, and articulate African-American?

How on earth does he choose that guy?

Or - she's the next Big Dawg if McCain is done in, by the RAT help, with a candlestick, in the Map Room.

"Under the circumstances, I cannot complain about your description."

I apologize for my use of vulgar language. It just reflects my level of frustration.

It isn't us. It's a bunch of ignorant fools who can't grasp the big picture.

.... and pay carbon credits for breathing.

This is a natural for the dems, as many of their voters would be exempt.

I don’t think he’ll really pick Lieberman. I really don’t. But, I sure hope I’m not wrong. I have some respect for Lieberman but I simply won’t be able to hold my nose enough to vote for McCain if he picks a pro-abortion running mate. Everyone draws their line somewhere and that’s mine. He’s an old and unwell man and his VP needs to be someone I could live with.

No apology needed. I was thinking the same thing. Very depressing. I have come to the conclusion that people no longer know what bad is.

They are about to find out.

It's kind of sad we have to resort to certain expressions to vent. But they drive us to it.
