I have been told by a social worker that 1 in 4 children will be sexually abused by the time they are 18 years old.
She is offering no proof to back up her numbers other than one advocacy website. I simply do NOT believe these numbers.
my common sense says it’s bulls*t.
Mine too. They pull numbers out of a hat, methinks.
Maybe in some circles
What about physical abuse, neglect, etc?
Please keep in mind what passes for ‘abuse’; the definition seems to be like a jello mold.
I’ve read that kids where the parents divorce and get remarried have a higher chance of being sexually abused. So if there is a 50% divorce rate, I could see this. It is very sad.
Reminds me of the statistics that 1 in 4 people in New York has an STD, 1 in 4 girls will be sexually harassed by 18, or 1 in 10 (10%) of the people in the US are homosexuals.
The only way any statistic can be developed, without actually asking every single person in the country (300 million+ at last count) is to determine it based upon a smaller sample of the population. When one does this, the statistic comes along with a confidence level that the statistic is correct. Of course, when the MSM reports the statistic, they NEVER report the confidence level. So, the 1 in 4 statistic of sexual abuse of children may only have a probability (or confidence level) of 25% of being correct (again, the only way you can actually find out the real answer is to ask every single person in the US the question). But that does not matter to a liberal MSM. They will tell any lie, at any time, and justify their “means” because it will meet whatever “ends” they want to achieve.

This sounds like one of those arbitrary numbers kooks like to throw out there. Like the 48 million without healthcare coverage. A lot of people will hear 1 in 4 people will be sexually abused and they will buy it because it sounds so terrible. I personally think it is a load of crap.
I’m guessing that this social worker’s definition of “sexual abuse” might be just a little too broad to stand up in a court of law.

Back in the days of the false charges of day care centers and churches being charged/convicted of incredible sexual abuse, I remember the surveys and polls taken.
One asked if any father had touched his daughter’s privates and 75% responded, YES.
In this case, "biased" would be a euphemism for "deluded."
Why would anyone ever talk to a social worker? They are the best example of liberal nanny-state agents.
I dont believe it either. If there is such a study, the definition of “sexually abused” has probably been manipulated.
For years now it has been conventional wisdom on college campuses that 1 in 4 female students will be sexually assaulted during her college years. This comes from an absurd study done by a couple of feminists who have rewritten the definition of “sexual assault” to include situations one would never consider as such. It’s easy to inflate the numbers this way ... and for political purposes some people do.
Every child in public school sex ed that learns in kindergarten to put a condom on a cucumber with their mouth in less than 7 seconds is being abused...(It doesn’t have to be physical)
I think you’ve got a great point here. I work in an area where it is actually accepted that a man there fathers his own grandchildren- I wish I was kidding on this but I am not. I have met 10 women from this place, and 4 of them told me about the sexual abuse they endured at the hands of their “fathers” and uncles.
Well, social workers gotta make sure that they keep their jobs, so they don’t mind inventing ‘statistics’.
And given the PC atmosphere of the schools and the lawyers, they consider 6 year old Billy touching 5 1/2 year old Sally, while on the playground or in class, anywhere on her body to be sexual assault.
Sorry, I don’t have any actual knowledge of the rate.. Even one in ten thousand is an abomination...
But the with all the stupid PC stuff making an innocent touch assault, a risque statement sexual harassment... While at the same time sexualizing even toddlers through the movies, TV, Oval office ‘oral exams’, magazines, slutty clothes in the stores etc. is it any wonder things are so messed up?
