Lieberman irks Democrats by criticizing Obama
By ANDREW MIGA, Associated Press Writer 33 minutes ago
Joe Lieberman is fast becoming the Democrats' public enemy No. 1.
The four-term Connecticut senator, who came tantalizingly close to being Al Gore's vice president in 2000, not only has been campaigning for his pal, presumed Republican nominee John McCain, now he's publicly criticizing the Democrats' standard-bearer, Barack Obama. Lieberman has strayed before, most notably switching from Democrat to independent in 2006 to hold onto his Senate seat after a Democratic primary loss.
But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats, who often answer in clipped but polite tones when asked about Lieberman. The reason: The independent still caucuses with the Democrats on most issues except the Iraq war, and he holds their slim political majority in his hands.
"There's a commonly held hope that he's not going to be transformed into an attack dog for Republicans," said Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., an Obama supporter.
Lieberman has wasted no time in questioning Obama's positions on Iran and Israel, two topics on which Lieberman and McCain agree. Just one day after Obama clinched his party's nomination, Lieberman joined Republicans on a McCain campaign teleconference call assailing Obama following his foreign policy address to a leading Jewish group.
Lieberman accused Obama of blaming U.S. policies for "essentially sort of strengthening" Iran.

Looking for the McCain VP post?
If just ONE commercial comes up using Lieberman, Kerry will no doubt start his trademark whining, trying to compare it to the Swift Vets truthful and courageous attack on him. What a sap. Cry, John, cry.
I’d prefer the “resigned” nominee John McCain. What are those chances?
“Id prefer the resigned nominee John McCain. What are those chances?”
Slim to none. But the media has to cast Obama who only last week seemed to become the presumptive nominee as THE nominee, while casting McCain as presumptive. Just another little sample of media bias v. any Republican, even a RINO.
Latest betrayal? After what the 'Rats tried to do to him in his last senate race? They backed his opponent who beat Lieberman in the CT primary. Lieberman switched to Independent, brought a lot of pubbies on board and handily beat his opponent, the guy that aced him out in the 'Rat race for his old senate seat. Lieberman owes the democ'rats nothing ... it's payback big time.
Lieberman “strayed” and “betrayed”? Nice, neutral language on the part of this typical AP writer.
Lieberman was betrayed by his own party. He was an incumbent with considerable seniority, but they supported his moonbat challenger and virtually drummed him out of the party. But the Connecticut voters showed that they preferred him to his designated replacement.
The joke is that on every issue but the war Lieberman is just as leftist as ever, and almost always votes with the Democrats. But the Party of Leftist Conformity will not permit anyone to “stray” on the least ideological point, on threat of banishment from the Ranks of the Righteous.
You can count on that.
I bet old sKerry is busy preparing his anti-Lieberman attacks for just such an eventuality, should it occur.
I don't know about that. They are good buddies... McCain/ Lieberman may just be the unstoppable winning ticket...
That issue, above all others for me, is an issue where my conscience MUST bear sway.
One day I must stand before God and account to Him for how I used my precious liberty and my vote. I will never vote for anyone who supports the killing of His most innocent children and expect to be able to withstand that day.
I ernestly pray McCain will not do that. I do not believe he will.
“But the latest betrayal has upset Democrats..”
What a laugh. The Kosco left, including greasy Chris Dodd, tried to beat Lieberman in Ct. Their real beef is Lieberman can sway the Jewish voting block. Jews would be fools to vote Obambi.
Mr. Kerry never did sign that paper to release his military files now did he?
He said he would, does that make him a liar?
Damn, that sounds familiar, where have I seen this recently.
