Two teenage boys who fell asleep while stargazing in the middle of a street in Danville were run over early this morning by a woman delivering newspapers from her car. The 15-year-olds were trapped for a time under the driver's Nissan Sentra before being extricated by rescuers from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, said Sgt. Phillip Wisotsky of the Danville Police Department. One teen suffered a punctured lung and a broken bone, while the other youth's injuries consisted mostly of "road rash," Wisotsky said. They were taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where police questioned them today. "They said they had gone out into the street to look at the stars," Wisotsky said. "They laid blankets down ... fell asleep and got run over." The incident occurred at 3:24 a.m. on Ashland Court. The driver, who delivers The Chronicle and other newspapers on the cul de sac, drove over the teens as she was leaving, apparently not seeing them. Wisotsky said an investigation is under way "as to who is at fault. It is illegal to lay in the street. It is a public roadway and people aren't supposed to sleep on it." According to Chris Blaser, vice president of circulation at The Chronicle, the driver was a subcontractor delivering papers for a Danville distributor. "She is very shaken up," he said.

LIE - it's illegal to LIE in the street.... [head exploding.] You LAY things down. Notwithstanding the fubar on the verbiage - what in the world would motivate kids to lie in a street?... and fall asleep???... drugs...
I lie on the street all the time, though mostly when I play 3 Card Monty.

...or possibly the absence of anywhere else flat to lay down and watch the stars. I’ve only seen this a couple times, in the inner city. It’s sad, really: watching stars is such a simple pleasure.
I dunno what that neighborhood is like — probably not inner-city ay.
I find it ironical that this story is reported by the Chronicles while the driver was delivering the Chronicles.
I hate speling erros and careless punctuation
Danville is in the suburbs. It’s kind of shielded from the bright lights of SF and Oakland by hills.
Obviously it’s the Chronicle’s fault.
When I was a boy in the country, we used to lay down in the road at night and watch stars, etc. The road was still warm, maybe one car a night passed..... One night my cousin fell asleep and the rest of us ran to the bushes and yelled “a car is coming, run! You’re gonna git run over! All the while we were throwing ‘May Pops’ at him...

Somebody should tell that to the illegals. Oh wait, they are already illegal, so why would they give a damn?
LOL
> I have been known to “lie” in the street. Every time a cop stops me.
