CHRIS DODD SWEETHEART LOAN STORY
I just left a message for Justine Sessions, Deputy Press Secretary for Senator Chris Dodd, Chairman of the Banking Committee. Dodd was the beneficiary of an insider loan from Countrywide for his condo in which he paid no loan fees or points. His constituents could not get that loan. That stinks.
I let Justine know I was working on a story and wondered if, because of the controversy, will the senator pay off the Countrywide loan and get a new loan.
Perhaps I should not hold my breath awaiting a return phone call. If you would like to call and ask a question of Justine Sessions, Dodd's office is 202.224.2823. Someone might want to ask if Dodd will step down as chairman of the committee until the entire sub-prime controversy is solved.
And, no, I didn't make any comments about the waitress sandwich. It was difficult, but I behaved myself.
SPECIAL NOTE: On June 23, 1967, Senator Thomas J. Dodd, Democrat of Connecticut, was censured by the United States Senate for diverting $116,000 in campaign funds for his personal use. The vote was 92 to 5. The rotten apple didn't fall far from the tree.
I’ll blog it if you want me to, Doug..
Great. Thanks.
I’d love to hear that hundreds of phone calls were made to his office.
Another superb example of that old saying: “Do as I say, not as I do.”
The thing that makes it so sweet is that it involves Mr. Dodd, who is a creep and shirker.
I wonder if David Gregory will cover this story? Oh no, I guess he won’t, because his faith forbids him to do so.
In a related development, Sen. Obama said today, “that’s not he Chris Dodd I know.”
NOTED: he got two mortgages
crickets chirping
I have a feeling that “That’s not the ________ _________ I knew” will be the theme of the Obama campaign.
LOL. Actually, I thought you’d like to see what the local news is saying.
Disgusting, but now a common practice in Washington on both sides of the aisle.
Hastert and Boehner both are earmark kings and have made millions because of them. The Dems are probably worse (they pontificate about being the honest players in the culture of corruption), but I am stunned about how they ALL behave.
I wish we could get rid of all of them and start over with honest people.
Yes, that and the whining. A lot of whining coming up soon.
MY GUESS IS THAT YOU DIDN’T GET HIS INTEREST RATE
Washington (AP) Senator Chris Dodd reportedly received two mortgages under a special Countrywide Financial Corporation program that gave preferential interest rates to friends of the companys chairman.
Dodd, a Democrat, is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee.
Thanks. Great work as always.
Yes, of course, that will fix everything. Pay back the $70,000 bribe, too, while you’re at it. If you get caught stealing, just give back the money, and all is forgiven.
Rats. You are probably correct.
And here I thought may just maybe I’d be an insider. ;->
We will be staying on these two..
Yes, we will keep up the heat on the “Culture of Corruption.”
It's been a few years since I got my mortgage. Getting one without fees and points is unheard of.
Dare I say it? Such a deal can only be categorized as HUGH and SERIES!
That may be, but if you read the first paragraph of the WSJ story, you will find it was indeed a preferential loan. Notwithstanding Dodds' being on the Banking committee, the damn committee was investigating Countrywide! And he gets preferential tratment, as a committe member! At the very least its unethical..
