Ireland vote rejects EU treaty
Irish Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has said substantial referendum returns show that Ireland has rejected the European Union reform treaty.
Electoral officials expect to confirm the result later.
Mr Ahern based his conclusion on tallies of votes produced nationally by election observers as well as early official returns.
They showed the "no" camp ahead in the vast majority of Ireland's 43 electoral constituencies, while pro-treaty voters were clearly ahead in only a few.
The expected result will send shock waves throughout the EU.
Ireland was the only member to subject the Lisbon Treaty to a popular vote, while other countries have been ratifying the painstakingly negotiated pact only through their national governments.
Mr Ahern said "We're in uncharted waters."

We don’t take kindly to threats either............
...”EC president Jose Manuel Barroso said a rejection would be bad for Europe and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner also warned that if Ireland voted ‘No’, ‘the first victim... would be the Irish”.............

Ireland was the only member to subject the Lisbon Treaty to a popular vote This speaks volume about the reason other countries had prohibited its citizens from exercising their right to vote on this issue.
Kudos to the Irish. Gives us all reason to want to be Irish for a day, other than St. Patrick's Day.

I would take those threats seriously. French/English/Irish here. One side of the family thrown out of bell towers for their religion, one totally robbed by the government crooks and the other starved out.
Yep..they will do it. Brace yourself.

Congratulations Ireland!
Be aware of this before you travel....The European Arrest Warrant
The list of 32 offenses includes ...racism and xenophobia,
As our readers are well aware, racism and xenophobia in the EU-speak have long included the nebulous thought-crime of Islamophobiaand my speech could be construed as paradigmatically Islamophobic by the drafters of the EU Framework Decision, and accordingly acted upon by the future users of the European Arrest Warrant.
...the Framework Decision defines a racist or xenophobic group as a structured organisation consisting of at least two persons established for a specific period.
This affects not only EU citizens, but also Americans who may say something here (or post something here to a website that is accessible to the EU) and get arrested over there, in an EU country, while on vacation. Believe it or not, the only people who could make this Lisbon Treaty come crashing down are the Irish, whose vote for or against on June 12th will make all the difference. I am hoping that the Irish will be the stubborn, proud and independent cusses they have always been, but the EU has poured a lot of money into Ireland to make the vote swing their way.
Lisbon Treaty, signed by all 27 EU heads of states or governments 13 December 2007, will have to be ratified by each Member State in order for it to come into force in 2009. Countries where the Treaty has been approved .

Since Ireland is the only country in Europe that respects the will of their people, they obviously do not belong. Eject the Irish from the EU, so the rest of the nations can follow their unimpeded path toward fascism. This makes me SO proud of my Irish blood!

French/English/Irish here. One side of the family thrown out of bell towers for their religion, one totally robbed by the government crooks and the other starved out. American Indian/English/Irish here.
Other than the first, we have the rest in common.
Treaties continually deprived the Indians of their rights ....after they quit trying to massacre the Europeans, anyway. :-)
Kudos to the Irish for seeing through the deceit.

The EU will undoubtedly follow up on the threat, and prayers that the Irish continue to stand tall.

This would leave Ireland - the only member to put the mammoth, often-unreadable document to a national vote - diplomatically isolated but nonetheless wielding the power to prevent the treaty from becoming law and forcing a period of renewed negotiations. You can see while the other European countries didn't let their citizens vote.

The most important thing is that the ratification process must continue in the other countries and then we shall see with the Irish what type of legal arrangement could be found,” Jean-Pierre Jouyet told LCI television.
“We cannot take a country out of Europe that has been there for 35 years,” Jouyet added.

35 Years ??????????

Meanwhile in Italy
A cabinet minister in Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s government on Friday welcomed the outcome of the Irish referendum, reported dpa.
“A thank-you goes to the Irish people for their vote,” Minister for Simplifying Legislation Roberto Calderoli was quoted as saying by the ANSA newsagency.
“Each time peoples have been called to vote, they have with clamour rejected a model of Europe which is seen as distant from the people themselves,” Calderoli, added.
Calderoli said Ireland’s rejection of the Treaty of Lisbon was in tune with the policies of his party, the Northern League which campaigns for devolving more power to Italy’s regions.
“Sovereignty belongs to the people and only the people can decide whether they want to give it up,” Calderoli said.

Note the Irish economy is flourishing thanks to reduced taxes, contrary to the economic doldrums in other high tax socialist EU states.

You can see while the other European countries didn't let their citizens vote. We were promised a vote in Britain by Tony BLIAR till he changed his mind.
Anyway, it's a pint of Guiness for me and big toast to our Irish neighbours for derailing this undemocratic monster that threatens the whole of Europe.

I used to travel to Europe a lot on business. I have sold all of my interests that depended on Europe and would not go there on a bet. They have become a ridiculous image of what is wrong with big brother Government of course we are not far behind.
