Maybe (just a thought) if he wanted to play pro ball he should have payed to go to a public college and not taken a free 4 year education on the public dime? I understand that he later states that maybe there was a way to do both, but that is the risk he decided to take.

Country comes first! He can play ball later.

If I dont get that chance (to play baseball) right now, Ill never get it again. And to fulfill a goal of getting to the pros, its sad that they would take it away from me.
****
The Navy didn;t take ANYTHING away from you kid.
Nobody put a gun to your head when you signed those papers to enlist. It’s called free will.
Now protect my 6.
BTW..see how the lib media tries to make the military look bad. This is an art form they’ve perfected since 9/11.

What a pity the country has to hold this young man to his sworn word to defend it when there are so many more important things at hand such as playing a kids' game for millions of dollars.
David Robinson and Napoleon McCallum really ought to take this young feller aside for a little counseling. With a ballbat.

The Navy did not take this away from him! What a selfish individual! Does the Navy really want crybabies on board their ships? I can only imagine what he will do for morale, always whining about how the Navy cheated him.

Half of me wants to say “tough-turkey” you signed the paper and took the four years free education... the other half of me says I wouldn’t want this idiot as MY division officer.
Or, frankly, in any position of responsibility on a US Navy warship. He doesn’t sound very reliable, patriotic or even intelligent.
Oh well, maybe the wardroom will be able to straithen him out one they are haze gray and underway.

Talk to Roger Staubach. He’ll explain how you can do both.

He’s likely to be a sorry officer. He has already flunked out on duty, obligation, responsibility, and leadership.

Caleb Campbell was drafted by the Detroit Lions this year, becoming the first Army football player to benefit from a new policy allowing athletes with a chance to play professionally to complete their service by serving as recruiters and in the reserves.
The last paragraph.

I am GLAD the Navy will make him stick to his deal. This little “Darling” has shown his true colors. He offends my every sensibility as so many before him were able to do both and never whined about it. He is seeing stars and has in his mind that he will make millions and the Navy does not pay well...at least thats how he comes across.

Disgraceful.

The Navy should charge him the 300,000 dollars it cost for him to receive the education and be done with him. I can imagine he will not give his whole heart and soul to the Navy.

OK putz.... resign you commission and buy out your contract.
Jeeze... I don’t think I want this guy in the service anyway.

As noted by some here; Roger Staubach didn’t seem to complain and I believe he did spend some time in Vietnam.
Phil McConkey went on to win a Super Bowl. I’ve never heard him complain.
