Daily Kos posts copy of Obama's birth certification
Hot Air ^ | 6/12/2008 | Allahpundit

No word of how he got it-Team Barry isn't actually leaking to dKos, is it?-and naturally he misunderstands Jim Geraghty's point about Obama's place of birth, which would have been relevant not with respect to his "Americanness" but whether he was constitutionally qualified to run as a natural-born citizen. But here it is.

Update: Not that it matters for purposes of addressing Geraghty's concerns, but Flip notes that the posted document is a certification of birth, which is slightly different from a birth certificate.

Yeah, I don’t know about the race part. I’m from California and I’ve never even paid attention to see if race was on it. My son was born in 1988 too, so if I remember tonight I’ll find his birth certificate and see if it asks for race.

It’s definitely an updated “electronic” version printed out recently — but that does not necessarily make it illegitimate. People can “order” their birth certificate online from just about any state, I believe, and it won’t necessarily look like the original. Although when I ordered mine a few years ago for a new passport application it did appear as a photostat of the original from the late ‘50s, even though it was obviously just printed out new. But for Massachusetts it came out nothing like this b/c it did have the image of the original, even though it was on new computer-printed paper.

I don’t know if they’re hiding anything or not - but this is not the original certificate, it’s a recent printout.

A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. Please note that some short (abstract) versions of birth certificates may not be acceptable for passport purposes.(click here for link)

It is not signed and sealed by a notary or a State official therefore it does not meet the requirements to get a Passport.

And I don't believe that it is real for a number of reasons which I have already described on This Thread.

I own two birth certificates from hawaii. 1968 and 61.

The info on this new Obama document is missing alot of what is on my BC. such as:

County, Hospital Name, states where parents were born, ages of parents at time of birth, and Is father an active member of US Armed Forces? (that last question is an actual section of it’s own which you have to mark yes or no.. It also includes the name of the Dr. or attendent involved.

So there is alot of missing info on his new copy. And added info like race.

Why is every word except dates in capital letters?

Cheap photoshop.

You think it’s the birth *date* he’s worried about, after all?

But if the State of Hawaii did not ask for the race of the baby or parents in the 60’s, why would it be on the newly issued document?

My son has a Hawaii birth certificate from 1988, and his does not ask for the baby’s nor the parents race. Seems to me, the state of Hawaii is not in the habit of asking the race for important documents.

I’m sure they did (ask for race in the early 1960s), all states did. Asking about race became very un-political correct in the ‘70s. Same with me, my BC has race, my children (born in 1980s) don’t .

Since the requirements changed that’s probably why it was deleted from the BC issued last year. I’d bet a years salary his original shows it –and that is why they won’t release it.

And the names are typed as the would be written out, instead of Last name first.

That must play hell on any filing system even a computerized one.

I pulled hubby’s copy of his birth cert.(USMC brat) but since it is October 1958 it states Territory of Hawaii. I am sure there were changes between 1958 and 1961, but on hubby’s it shows his father’s information first, and his mother’s second. It also includes occupations of the parents, and the title at the top “Certificate of Live Birth”. His is also black with white printing like it had been pulled from a microfiche.

Opinions vary. You are entitled to yours. And of course, I wouldn't know without examining it in person.

But, just from my experience with BCs and see this one, I'd accept it as proof of age & citizenship if it come across my desk.

In my professional opinion, it's close enough for government work.

If you catch my drift ;->

Exactly. that sounds alot like the 68 one I have except they were a state then. Asks if parent is member of armed forces and ages of parents and places of birth. All of this is missing on Obama’s document.

It's not uncommon in some circles for a daughter to be given her mother's maiden name as a middle name -- sometimes even as a first name (I know one woman whose first name is Hurley), and sometimes even in multiple generations (as in the case of the late socialite/decorator Chesbrough ("Chessy") Lewis Hall Rayner, daughter of a woman named Chesbrough Patcevitch).

But apparently Obama's mama's daddy, the furniture salesman, really really wanted a son, so he named his daughter after himself.

I like how the last line on the bottom left, "Date filed by registrar" looks like a dot matrix printer cut out the top row, or an inkjet printer had a streak.

Did this laser form only pre-print the form headier, footer, and state seal onto a ream of formstock, and then another printer prints the labels and data for any form?

No! Of course not! your word is better then the what the state department requires...

It’s an easily identifiable fake and if you are fooled by it god only knows how many illegal aliens slipped a similar document past your eyes.
