Excellent post. Thank you for making it.

The stated purpose of schools, and why parents entrust their children to "educators" is so that their children will become educated and successful.

This has never be "all" of it, of course, and will never be as long as school remains a handy dandy place to indoctrinate all those young minds full of mush. Especially easy since they're already their to learn.

The odd thing is that with all the indoctrination they have to fit into a day's school, there is very little time for education.

My children were, are, and will be home schooled, of course. They are their own wonderful people, and are very successful and happy, everything a parent would want in their children.

I only have a tiny bone of contention with what you say, and it is that you wrote: "Now, you tell me THAT isn't "taking...children apart psychologically" with the FULL endorsement of everyone from parent to Principle, to Priest, and Pope.

The Popes have actually held that the family and the Church hold sway long before the State, and that the State should submit to the family in matters of education:

The first natural and necessary element in this environment, as regards education, is the family, and this precisely because it is so ordained by the Creator Himself. Accordingly, that education which is received in a well-ordered and well-disciplined Christian family will, as a rule be more effective and lasting, and more efficacious in proportion to the clear and constant good example set, first by the parents, and then by the other members of the household...
The State therefore has the duty to respect the prior rights of the family and of the church in the matter of education, and even protect these rights. If the State were to "monopolize education," this would violate the rights of individuals, of the family, and of the Church.

Christian Education of Youth, Pope Pius XI

Isn't that awesome?

Thanks for that papal quote.

My meaning wasn’t so much to say that the papacy has been a whole-hearted advocate of public education, as it was to say that official clergy, from Popes and other international Christian leaders down to local Priests, Pastors, Vicars [insert Title as per the Christian tradition of your choice here], have not been cognizant of, nor have they been vociferous in their opposition to, what public education has become.

Had they known, we would have long since seen FAR more pointed language out of Rome, and guys like Dr. James Dobson would not only be decrying the state of public education, they would be actively, nationally, vocally, and intensely campaigning for a mass exodus from the public system. Yes, Dobson and others have expressed their opinions that such an exodus is a wise move, but they aren’t out ther 24/7/365 beating the drums to MAKE it happen.

IOW, SINCE it has become SO bad, where are the voices shouting warnings?

Either it isn’t that bad, or those who would cry out are simply not aware of how bad it has become.

I happen to know that the latter is the case; it really IS that bad, but few who would otherwise raise the alarm truly understand the gravity of the issue.

The liberal incermentalism that could be pooh-poohed in 1978 has advanced to the point that it is now a potent force for the destruction of young lives; morally, philosophically, culturally, socially...the situation has become quite dire.

Unfortunately, MOST of the parents of the present generation are walking around with a 30-year old concept of what public school is like, and accompanying 30-year old ideas about how strongly liberal/socialist/Marxist ideas are put forth in the public system. They simply cannot grasp that the present is exponentially worse than they remember. Many of them dismiss that notion with a wave and a chuckle if you attempt to inform them; they will not believe it. THIER kids have an excellent school, and wonderful teachers, and blah-blah-blah-blah, and we’re off to see The Wizard somewhere over the freakin’ rainbow.

MEANWHILE, the tools of Marx are already pumping corruption into the minds of their unwitting offspring.

Public school is child abuse on a 15-year installment plan.
