UPDATE:
Homeland security is still confirming 4 deaths, but they have said that the previous report of 6 injuries is incorrect. The number Ch. 6 is reporting is 40 injured.
There was apparently a spotter that was caught right in the middle of this particular storm due to a glitch in his radar - he was attempting to warn the camp apparently. He said it was a “rain-wrapped” tornado - a rare one. They said that it’s very hard to recognize these types of tornados even for those trained.
Omaha Metro Number for parents - 431-9272
And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.- Isaiah 65:24
Rain-wrapped tornadoes are quite common. Not sure where that comes from.
That’s awful!
Some things it’s better never to have seen.
They brought some of the injured up here to Sioux City. I know the leadership and older scouts from Dakota County Nebraska were there. I know who they are, and hope they are ok. I wonder, tho, if that’s the ones they brought up to SC.
Local (Lincoln, NE) news just said something like 93 campers betw. the ages of 15-18 and 24 or 25 adults there. Homeland Security in IA said 4 dead and 40 injured. One of my best friends from college lives very near there and I’m afraid one of her kids might have been there . . . damage throughout NE . . . please send prayers for anyone affected!
Prayers for the Scouts. Mine are heading to scout camp here in Idaho next week.
This would be the camp right across from the KOA campground then., right?
Like you, not sure they are rare, but have always heard that rain wrapped tornados do tend to be more powerful...not sure if that is right.
Glad to see our Freeper experts getting in on this thread though.
Prayers and bump. Thanks for your service to us jarheads, doc.
Prayers up for all.
Fervent prayers for all those affected by this disaster.
May our Lord keep them in his arms.
Thank you Mr. Silverback.
Well, I’ve decided to open up my MSN browser because it seems that Ch. 6 is not very accurate in their reports - I’ve now got Action 3 open, as well as the stream from the chasers.
I would think that it was the anchors who perhaps got the wording wrong or something as far as the description.
Thankfully, these boys are also bound to be well trained in first aid, and those who are able are surely helping the more seriously injured Scouts and Scouters. Our Scouts are a terrific bunch of boys - helpful, resourceful, and well trained. They, and their leaders, are the ones I'd want with me in an emergency.
May God be with them and their families.
Rain-wrapped not necessarily stronger, but harder to see. Once they start pulling in rain, they usually begin to weaken. Boy Scout camps are usually poorly funded and structures are relatively primitive. An EF2 would be more than sufficient unfortunately. Rain-wrapped is dangerous as you have to rely solely on hearing it coming. They had a 12 minute warning, which is pretty good - but not many places to really hide from any storm of moderate strength.
