WAMEGO Despite some differences in political opinions, former presidential hopeful Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., said he will support John McCain in the election.
The presidential election was among the topics when Hunter spoke Saturday at Kaw Valley State Bank in Wamego in support of former Rep. Jim Ryun's bid for the 2nd District
The conservative Hunter, who has been a strong supporter for establishing a physical fence line to the country's southern border, initially endorsed Mike Huckabee but said he called McCain to give his endorsement after the Arizona senator secured the nomination.
"McCain has committed to the fence," Hunter said. "John will keep his word."
In February, a list of McCain supporters in Kansas was topped by former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker and followed by Sen. Sam Brownback.
The conservative Ryun is backing McCain as well.
"I'll give him my support," Ryun said. "He's on the top of the ticket."
Ryun faces state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins for the Republican nomination. The winner will face incumbent Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Kan., in the general election.
I'm only thankful that, not being a politician, I have no such obligations.
Anyone who knew anything had to know this was coming.
We all knew that all of the Republican candidates except for Ron Paul would support McCain.
Anyone who believed otherwise is delusional.
Old news. Hunter endorsed McCain right after he hit his magic primary number. Big deal. Everyone has their threshold to relent to the lesser socialist evil. You, Hunter, Tancredo and Mensa man with a hard case of narcissistic personality disorder may vote for whomever you wish. No one is stopping you. Just don’t expect many conservative FReepers to follow suit- and the harder you scream like freakin’ fear mongering koolaid drinkers while your candidate keeps running left, the more entrenched we’ll be to tell you and McCain to piss off.
Is that type of comment necessary? I, for one, am disgusted reading it.
Be disgusted.
New disappointments every day...:(
“Obama should be no where near the White house. I dont agree with McCain on some issues, but McCain is the logical choice.”
And most Freepers agree.
We will just have to try harder to get conservatives into the hopper for next time.
For now, Obama must be stopped. McCain can do it.
You and me, too!! But I doubt McCain would have that much sense.
Very gracious of you....
I’m all about graciousness, mah FRiend. It’s what I do.
Probably never occurred to you that there may be children and, duh, ladies on this forum, huh?
Oh well.....
Do have a good night.
The old phrase don’t feed the ........comes to mind LOL Another poster that shows the need for an ignore button. Folks don’t even need to see that.
Do you really believe that if McCain gets his 20+ million new, uneducated, government dependent, Democrat voters there will be a "next time"?
Duncan Hunter was far away the best of the lot...with McCain way down near the bottom of the list. I have been slowly moving towards supporting McCain, mainly because the alternative is too awful to contemplate. But with my hero Hunter saying he supports McCain, that seals the deal.
Now wouldn’t it be great if McCain would pick Hunter to be his running mate! Don’t hurt to wish I guess.
We can only pray that someone with some sense will impress upon McCain that his stance on drilling must change! The situation has become a matter of National Security and all of you know it. Executive Orders from the President could stop this environmental attack on our country. Iran, Venezuela...et all, have us by the balls. They can't whip us militarily..so they are now going to bring us to our knees over oil. NOT! REPUBLICANS must beat the drum for energy independence. It's not as though we don't have the oil...it is the [d]emocrats (wholly owned subsidiary of the environmental lobby). Take advantage of the position those bastards have put us in.
Don't get me wrong...I want to support McCain. However, he has not done anything lately to warrant that support. I'll see...as I said before, he will get my vote...but my support is much more valuable!
If he pushes to continue progress on the fence like he stated, that will be a start. Attrition is the way to go...FRED had it right! WOW...what a good man to have breathing down McCain's neck. I hope he is at least considered as part of the security team.
Meh, I can understand, given the alternative of Obama.
Not enthusiastic though. Especially given that Duncan Hunter is retiring from Congress after this term.
Who knows, maybe McCain will do something positive in the next five months. Or maybe Obama will just do something that makes him impossible to vote for.
I think the GOP is going to unified big time come November.
