ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Senator Barack Obama told reporters in St. Louis today that he has fallen off the wagon and smoked cigarettes in the last few months.
The presumptive Democratic nominee has been open about his smoking past: Once a heavy smoker, he publicly gave up the habit, per his wifes request, to run for president.
Since quitting, Obama has indicated in the past that he has fallen off the wagon but before today was not specific about how recent his smoking was.
Months, Obama said of the last time he has smoked.
Obama regularly chews Nicorette while not at campaign events, and the recent release of a doctor's note from his primary care physician indicated that it has brought him a level of success.
His own history included intermittent cigarette smoking, David L. Scheiner, M.D. wrote in a letter released to reporters. He has quit this practice on several occasions and is currently using Nicorette gum with success.

Never saw the movie but the book was friggin’ hilarious.
I bet you earned that name WOBBLY.
This is amazing. Most elite/whining liberals hate smokers even more than GW, Conservatives and the Pope! Obama gets another walk from the vile elite libs with his smoking.
The movie was good too, Syn. We just watched it the other night, funny.
Using Nicorett might be *quitting* smoking but, it isn’t quitting nicotine.
Yo, Hussein. You the most prominent African-American brother, so when you light up, your be encouragin’ the kids to smoke more than all them merchants your pal Father Pfleger threatened to shut down cuz they be pushin’ cigarettes in the ‘hood.
I quit drinking and smoking 10-26-75, at 12:00 PM after thirty years. It was my 45th birthday and my first AA Meeting. I haven’t had any tobacco or alcohol since.
Ho-ho-ho! >:-}
Molon Labe!!
As far as the smoking, I support the guy. For some reason Churchill comes to mind.......
Put me at the conference table when the conversation turns to whether or not to bomb Iran and deny me the right to have a smoke then Iran is going to have a very serious problem............
LOL!
Like I used to say, before i quit for good:
"it's easy to quit - so easy that I've done it several times!"
The question is, did he ever sneak a smoke in a public building in a state that bans smoking.
If so, he’s a criminal.
I quit overeating between each snack.
George Bush quit drinking. It had to be hard to do, but Bush had a certain level of self-control.
Barack can’t even quit smoking?
Are you a smoker? I smoked cigarettes for 14 years, +/-. I started when 14. I quit at 28. I was smoking three packs of Marlboro reds per day. I woke one morning, and lit one while sitting on the side of the bed. After racking coughs for a couple of minutes, I extinguished it, threw the pack in the trash, and the rest of a carton followed. I quit in 1975!
Your premise is a generalization, like so many other myths!
Currently I am a quit smoker, for almost a year now. Went 3 years at one point. Knew a guy who went 25 years and still had the daily cravings.
Part of what makes smoking so addictive is that you know the crappiest is one light away from mellowing out. Especially in this modern “smoking is evil” world where we have to go outside to do it. Not only do you get the relaxing nicotine you get to walk away from whatever is making your day suck for those 7 minutes. 7 minutes away from your desk is at least as addictive as smoking.
Some people pull it off, and I tip my hat to you for doing it. But all the data shows you’re the exception and I’m the norm. For most people the urge for a cigarette never goes away, as addictions go it’s pretty brutal. Lou Reed said it was hands down the hardest thing to quit, and Lou quit a lot of stuff.
That would actually get him more votes than a 1,000 flowery speeches about nothing
Of course, you have to have a set of balls first to be considered a man.
Obama is like a Ken doll, smooth between the legs
Dude, you need a patch! Not!
I guess a crutch would be better. It takes a willing heart! It's takes a dedication to principle. No, it isn't easy, but it really isn't hard! You just have to reach down and decide who's in charge!
“Risk-of-death Charts Show Smokers Should Beware”
“If you smoke, start thinking of yourself as a decade older than you really are. A 55-year-old man who smokes has almost the same chance of dying in the next 10 years as a 65-year-old who’s never smoked.”

Plus Hillary made the WH smoke free, so he'll just have to walk 25 ft outside the Oval Office everytime he wants to sneak one.
Don’t need a patch. Just need life to not give me hell times. The last time I unquit work went to mandatory 7 day weeks and my grandmother started dieing (ironically of lung cancer). I was either at work, at the hospital or sleeping, after a couple weeks of that it was either kill somebody or go back to my old friend nicotine. I decided a murder trial would just make things more complicated.
It really is hard. Why do you think there’s a multi-million dollar industry around quitting smoking. No other addictive substance has so many products for sale to help you quit, that’s not an accident or coincidence. Addiction study after addiction study shows nicotine is hands down the hardest addictive to quit and stay quit. Your success is not the norm, not even close to the norm, not even a double digit percentage of the norm. Congrats on your success but remember you are the 1 in a million exception, for the rest of the world there really are no true ex-smokers, that’s the simple reality.
The last time tobacco was used in the Oval Office was in the Clinton administration, it was used but it was not smoked. That Billy Boy is a clever one, when he “uses” marijuana he doesn’t smoke it either, because he doesn’t inhale.
