Well, I agree with you on the fact that I’ve personally seen many here who support Paul engaging in activities to undermine the WOT. You are also correct that much of the rhetoric coming out of the Paul campaign, and the LP incidentally are statements straight out of the anti-war “playbook”. Many are way past the technicality issues, and have started to engage in pure anti-war propaganda.
The thing is, no-one here was defending this guy, and no-one was arguing that this particular strategy was “OK”. Therefore, making off-handed remarks that suggested that ALL Paul supporters would behave in this manner is what sparked the arguments on this particular thread. Then it devolved into an argument about pot...
While it pains me to see my “former friends” of the libertarian and Libertarian variety being so dang liberal, I don’t think ridicule is a good form of persuasion.
Incidently, this subject is exactly why I am no longer a Libertarian (left the LP in 2002). I had no wish to be personally associated with people who were embracing the “left” and “liberals” more and more with each passing month since 9/11. As I said though, ridicule, name calling, and other such things that I’ve witnessed in arguments such as these over the past few years here is not what I’d call honorable behavior either.
OK, now I’m really done venting... ;-) I’ve got better things to do with my time, frankly - like figuring out ways to assure that Obama doesn’t win this election, and that we can stop the direction this election is heading in for the safety of our country.
*Stepping off my soapbox*
As far as the pot bit, well that always seemed to come up, since according the many of the RP anti war folks, the WOT is as bad as the WOD, and the had a magical way of tying the two together at some point in the conversation...
