The silly part is when I talk to younger people at gatherings they realy think they have more freedom now. Im not quite at that 40 bracket yet but I do see a huge difference in things since I was a teen. For starters PC was the IBM PC ....

Yeah, I grew up in the 1980s, and can agree with you on most of these points.

"No papers for my parents to fill out."

That one is as easy to explain as why restaurants fear customer retaliation in the courtroom over hot coffee. Everything is stupid now because of the lawsuit threat, and the scumbag lawyers that push this hostility toward Americans.

"MTV and most TV saturate viewers' lives with sexual imagery and sexual talk..."

Bill Clinton and Madonna are responsible for this. Their glamorization of sin is why everyone under 25 has an STD these days.

"Kids are surrounded by peers twice, three, four times their age."

I once read that the average adult mentality is that of a 15 year old kid, so it is fair to say that many adults are immature. Most of them are too irresponsible and stupid to have children, but they do anyway. That's why we are surrounded by fickle, callous and equally vacuous idiots who worship at the altar of Britney Spears instead of Jesus. That would also explain why a stupid fool like Shepard Smith is on the TV at 6 PM CST each evening.

Where is the humility and self-respect? That's long gone! Generation Me is all about egocentrism and instant self-gratification, in addition to acting like an immature group.

I am an under 40 also and actually love they way life is. It is a blast to play with the kids with the new video games and various other stuff they have now. The movies have gotten better for children. They put out a few cartoon one’s yearly. There is plenty of children’s programing that they can watch that give pretty good messages. The only problems I have with children today is that they can’t have peanut butter, sugar and parties at school. Other than that they have it pretty good. My parents were under their desks worried about nukes in their day. Today’s generation is fine. The Gen X’ers are the best of the lot.

Young people haven’t the frame of reference with which to judge. Therefore someone who gets beat 4 times daily would consider beatings 2 times daily an improvement.

Steve, I was born in South Carolina in ‘44. I started doing chores as soon as I was big enough to carry ten pounds of weight. I started walking behind a big draft horse while still in grade school, I am not sure exactly but I could not have been more than ten or so when my older brother taught me to handle the horse and a plow. Some of my cousins were fortunate enough to have a tractor to drive in the fields and they started as soon as they were tall enough to be able to operate the clutch and brake, I envied them! By age 12 I was experienced with an axe and I pulled one end of a 5 foot 6 inch long crosscut saw to cut down big oak trees for firewood. All this was hard work but now I see that people are afraid to let young boys do anything and it is not good to be that way. My ten year old grandson comes to visit and wants to use my machete and his father has a fit at the mere mention. I bite my lip while remembering all the things I did at age ten, I used to carry a pocket knife to school and the teacher would sometimes borrow it when I was younger than ten! How are young boys supposed to become competent men now when they are not allowed to do anything?
