McCain Campaign Declines to Meet with Billy Graham Sunday, June 8, 2008 10:10 PM By: Doug Wead For almost six decades, Billy Graham has been Americas most influential preacher and evangelist, a man sought out by every president since Harry Truman. Editor's Note: After this report was published the McCain campaign clarified its position about a meeting with Dr. Billy Graham. Read the clarification Click Here Now. In another disturbing sign that Sen. John McCain has little interest in reaching out to his conservative base, including evangelical Christian voters, his campaign has declined an offer to meet with the Rev. Billy Graham. For almost six decades, Graham has been Americas most influential preacher and evangelist, a man sought out by every president since Harry Truman.

Billy Graham has come in for some recent criticism that, over the decades, it was more a question of him chasing presidents, than the other way around. He seemed to be too eager to schmooze with power.
That said, the article also states that McCain’s advisers were entirely too eager to pander to the media hit job on Rev. Hagee; taking quotes out of context and—abetted by ignorance—using the media to tar him for things he never said. McCain’s dumping Hagee only ended up confirming the accusations trying to equate him with Rev. Wright.
I got my info from Rush. If Newsmax was his source and they missed the boat, time will tell, I’m sure.
It’s a false report, since refuted by both McCain and Graham sources. See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2028705/posts

Maybe this would be better. :-)
Not a big deal in the end.

Rush was truly angry about this today, among many other things he was understandably angry about...
Wish I could’ve heard Rush today on that! What a previous poster said - I agree - McCain should absolutely have gone to meet BG, NOT expected BG to come there - if that was the only issue. It’s still shockingly stupid, at the very least. Not only does it appear as very public disrepect of a religious icon, but considering how BADLY McCain needs the support of both conservatives and evangelicals, it’s downright suicidal.
Oh really?! From what I've seen to date McCain has gone out of his way to be antagonistic and downright disrespectful towards his solid conservative base from the git go. This is not the first time he has rebuffed attempts by the social right to establish some dialogue. He will need all those left wingers he has been going out of his way to court if he has even the remorest chance.
There’s that guy Doug Wead again. Makes me wonder about the whole story.
“Short notice is tough when you are on a tight schedule trying to see as many Americans as possible. Im sure McCain didnt actually rebuff Rev Graham. He just has to rearrange his schedule.”
you’re kidding, right?
:-)

ROFL!!!
okay--but in this case, he has not rebuffed him... when he actually does rebuff Billy Graham, then he can get credit/blame for it... until then, it's a scheduling conflict... do we want the media to get it right or not? our feelings about McCain should have nothing to do with how/what is being reported...
And wait till you write your own stuff and post it. That’s even worse. Then you get to stand in the corner like I do daily and repeat, “The satire was stupid,” 1,000 times.
:-)
With Doug Wead’s track record, I intend to take everything he says with an enormous grain of salt.
You must stand in a corner and repeat, Im a bad poster 500 times.

The McCain camp is trying hard to do an about face here. It's likely they quickly realized they screwed up as the numbers have not been looking too hot for him in the polls lately and are trying desperately do an about face in this matter it would seem. That they may need some of those conservatives after all. LOL, wouldn't that be a hoot.
For one I believe the story as written because he has a long established track record to date in ignoring his conservative base and chasing after the hard left in recent weeks. You can deny it all you want but that doesn't change the facts so far to date.
To blame this screw up on a scheduling conflict is about as lame as it comes across as sounding. That may sound plausible to the uninitiated but to those who have been around the block at least once knows better considering his dismal record on the conservatives to date.
Besides that, JimRob might start a "psychiatric wing" for FR and make me the first inmate. lol
