McCain launches Minn. political battle with new TV ads

Republican presidential hopeful John McCain will start running ads on Twin Cities TV stations tomorrow.

St. Paul, Minn. — McCain bought nearly $150,000 worth of ads on five Twin Cities TV stations. The 250 spots will run through late June.

It's the Arizona Republican's first ad buy in Minnesota. McCain says in the ad that he's running to keep the country safe, but he also goes through his family's military history and his dislike for war. McCain's campaign said the ad will run in Minnesota and ten other states.

The ad buy is another signal that McCain and likely Democratic nominee Barack Obama will compete heavily to win Minnesota.

Obama visited Minnesota earlier this week as he clinched the Democratic nomination. McCain will be in Minneapolis on June 19th for a fundraiser and may also make a public campaign appearance.

Interesting, RCP has Obama up by 11% in Minn., yet McCain is launching an ad buy.

If Minnesota is indeed a toss up state, and McCain is looking at Gov Pawlenty for VP, this would possibly be one of his better decisions in recent history.

Obama Calls McCain Campaign “Divisive”

The launching of a TV ad touting Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president, sparked outrage from the Obama campaign.

“At a time when the nation should be uniting, Senator McCain persists in stirring up opposition,” Obama complained. “I will concede that Senator McCain has served this nation honorably. We are grateful, but it’s time to move on to our new destiny. I invite the Senator to join our campaign for change.”

Others in the Obama camp were less gracious—attributing McCain’s continued opposition to an Obama presidency as “racism, pure and simple.” Supporters of Senator McCain’s bid for the office were warned. “We are taking note of these people,” said a source asking to remain anonymous. “If they don’t wise up, they shouldn’t be surprised when the hammer comes down on them next January. And turncoats like Lieberman—well, we will have a special treatment for them.”

Afterall we did choose to have the convention here (who knows why). Might as well fight for it. FWIW, I think Minn. is a steep climb but not impossible - if we unload successfully on Obama as the season closes.

Well, here we go. What is McCain supposed to do? Why would he not be opposed to an Obama presidency? He is the other candidate, for heaven's sake!

**McCain’s campaign said the ad will run in Minnesota and ten other states.**

MN will be definitely one state to watch. Right now, I think McCain will take it.

If Minnesota goes Red, we will have a McCain landslide on our hands.
