MINNEAPOLIS -- There are thousands of journalists and others taking part in a convention in the Twin Cities this weekend. Among the major names in town is former CBS News anchor and "60 Minutes" contributor, Dan Rather.
The aim of the convention is to reform the media. Attendees ultimately want to hold the media accountable for serving the public interest.
"I have a lifetime of believing the red, beating heart of free and democratic people is a free and independent -- truly independent -- press," said Rather.
One of their main goals is to make large national ownership groups and other media companies more responsive to the public.
Rather says, "We've reached a point where too few very large international conglomerates with interests outside news own too much of the mass media."

What Dan Rather means is “ a free democratic press dictated to by the Liberal Democrats”.

I’d rather have root canal than look at Rather. He can have his RED beating heart of DEMOCRATIC America and stuff it where the sun doesn’t shine.

"I have a lifetime of believing the red, beating heart of free and democratic people is a free and independent -- truly independent -- press," said Rather. How about just an honest press?
A press that doesn't make their news up out of whole cloth.
Just report the facts, don't speculate, don't "analyze".

What Dan Rather means is a free democratic press dictated to by the Liberal Democrats. The last CBS newscaster I remotely trusted was Douglas Edwards. The leftist tilt really began with Cronkite, although Murrow had his moments. Frankly, I think McCarthy had Murrow pegged.

did dan really use the word ‘red’?

How about just telling the truth and reporting the facts?

I’ll bet he and Shelby are having a love fest tonight.
Both from the same mold....spin the news to suit their

So if Rather sends a no name in his place to read Dan's words would the audience be understanding seeing that it's a fake but accurate appearance?

Hmmm... With all the talk of holding the media “accountable” not a SINGLE mention of Dan’s sham.
I guess “accountable” means baseless conservative-bashing.

Rather says, "We've reached a point where too few very large international conglomerates with interests outside news own too much of the mass media." How could Dan Rather work in the MSM, in a high-profile position, all those years and never realize that it was a profit-oriented enterprise and not a public service entity? He should have gone to work for NPR or PBS.....
