MINNEAPOLIS -- A new ordinance in Minneapolis limits vehicle idling at three minutes.

Mayor R.T. Rybak says the idea is to reduce air pollution.

City Council member Sandy Colvin Roy says cars don't need more than one minute to warm up, even in the winter.

The ordinance limits most vehicles idling to three minutes, except in traffic.

Unbelievable. Apparently there are no more murders and the cops now have time to enforce this idiocy.

This might work with new vehicles...but if I have a 67 Mustang...I’d probably let it warm up in January for a good four or five minutes before I drove it.

What are they going to do, run around to peoples’ garages and make sure they’re not running their engines over three minutes? This is nuts. I think their brains have frozen up there.

So how exactly is this new ordinance going to be enforced? Will police be checking everyone’s vehicle in their drive ways each day during the winter?

“City Council member Sandy Colvin Roy says cars don't need more than one minute to warm up, even in the winter.”

On further City Council business, auto expert, Little Miss Sandy, said that the Council would propose toilet paper usage to be restricted to sheets. If passed, this measure will be monitored closely by Miss Sandy!

They'll probably depend on neighbors to tell on each other.

Okay, does this mean that, if I turn on my car and let it idle for two and a half minutes, shut it down, and restart it, I get another three minutes?

The Council and the Mayor have passed their ordinance, now let them enforce it. Wonder what the Minneapolis Police think of this idea.

On-board telescreen. That will really cut down on cell phone use, high-fat junk food consumption, and pot smoking, too.

The government can now get rich visiting auto shops and issuing fines to the mechanics who let a car idle for three minutes while they work on it.

Well if they do as good a job enforcing this law as they do inspecting bridges, no problem.

I love those that ignore real problems. I know it is probably different government levels, but proportion please. Politicians must learn to restrain themselves from making laws, just because they can. Laws should be necessary and enforcable. This one is neither.

our government and their enforcers will take what ever power we are willing to give up. The people will pee and moan but the rulers know that in the end they will just bend over and take it, awaiting the next batch of regulations.
