Can’t blame him, although I don’t know how you solve this prisoner’s dilemma in an Internet age. One site floats the rumor, word spreads via e-mail, a few other sites blog it, another dozen sites reason that it’s gaining currency as a meme and already Google-able so there’s no reason to ignore it, and it’s off to the races. The media gets wind of it, checks it out, maybe runs a public advisory story debunking it (e.g., “No evidence of Michelle Obama tape”), and finally puts a question to the candidate himself to give him a chance to blow it out of the water. The story runs the next day, a million people read about it, ten percent assume that it’s at least partially true, and voila. How do you keep a conspiracy of silence when everyone in the world’s a publisher?
“We have seen this before. There is dirt and lies that are circulated in e-mails and they pump them out long enough until finally you, a mainstream reporter, asks me about it,” Obama said to the McClatchy reporter during a press conference aboard his campaign plane. “That gives legs to the story. If somebody has evidence that myself or Michelle or anybody has said something inappropriate, let them do it.”
Asked whether he knew it not to be true, Obama said he had answered the question.
“Frankly, my hope is people don’t play this game,” Obama said. “It is a destructive aspect of our politics. Simply because something appears in an e-mail, that should lend it no more credence than if you heard it on the corner. Presumably the job of the press is to not to go around and spread scurrilous rumors like this until there is actually anything, an iota, of substance or evidence that would substantiate it.”

all people need to do is read Obama’s own words in his books....and truly LISTEN to his words. imho, Obama seems to lean toward a socialist system of government vs the American system.
Hussein’s non-response response looks like evidence the tape exists. Is someone holding it back for the ideal release time? Hope so.
I won’t believe there’s a tape until I see it-Republicans set themselves up with these things-but what’s so hard about Obama just saying that she never said it? He is tap-dancing around this as if defying people until the tape,if there is one, actually comes out.
Being a lawyer helps and hurts him. He knows never to say never, when he isn’t sure. He’s also good at tricking people and playing them. He KNOWS “it” could be true.
Shouldn’t Obama be mad at his “supporter” Bob Beckel for floating this rumor? And shouldn’t the “reporters” be asking Beckel what’s up?
Barry scared. He already played just about all his stereotype cards. If the tape be true, and do come out, then all Barry can do, is say my Michelle, she be just a typical black woman, you know she get a little angry and get a little emotional, you know like my Aunt Maxine Waters.
I thought you were going to put an end to all this yourself, Barack. Stop whining and get on with your magic act.
Tape or no tape, Obama and his wife are white-hating radicals. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t have hung out with Jeremiah Wright for 20 years. Whether there’s a tape of Michelle saying “whitey this, whitey that” is irrelevant. There’s a photograph of her with Mrs. Louis Farrakhan. The tape is a red herring, imho. If it surfaces, great. But there’s already a mountain of evidence concerning who these people are, and how they feel about the rest of us.

This whole thing just got even MORE interesting. Every time Obama spouts this “distraction” speech it’s something that always, without fail, turns out to be true.
“But Herself, still the Cold and Joyless, has nothing to lose now.”
Except a run against McCain in 2012? I would have thought by now the Clintons ability to wait for the opportune moment would be well known. Hillary waited 8 years in the senate to run now. Her best chance to run again is in 2012. But to do it, she can’t be the one to destroy Obama. She has to appear to be totally on his side.
The reporter should have followed up with, "So, you don't deny there may be a tape?"
