SERENA HOTEL ATTACK HIGHLIGHTS SECURITY CONCERNS IN KABUL
U.S. Embassy Kabul released the following Warden Message on June 18:
The U.S. Embassy wishes to inform American citizens in Afghanistan that the Embassy continues to receive credible threat information regarding the intention of insurgents to conduct terrorist activities targeting both Afghan officials and coalition personnel in the greater Kabul area. The possibility of loss of life or injury remains significant. The Embassy is working closely with GOA officials to counter these threats. Travel of Embassy personnel in the greater Kabul area remains restricted.
The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages all personnel to remain vigilant and to closely evaluate their personal security posture, practices and predictability, to include varying times, routes and venues whenever possible. Americans who find themselves in cases of extreme emergency in Afghanistan may contact the Embassy receptionist via 0700-10-8001 or the Consular Section via mobile at 0700-20-1908.
We take this opportunity to remind the community to review their safety precautions. Updated information may be obtained by contacting the American Embassy in Kabul at usconsulkabul@state.gov or by calling the Consular Section at 0700-10-8380.
