IA, MND-B Soldiers seize caches throughout Baghdad
Multi-National Division Baghdad PAO
BAGHDAD Iraqi Army and Multi-National Division Baghdad Soldiers uncovered several caches throughout Baghdad June 12.
Soldiers with the 22nd Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, seized a weapons cache in the Kadhamiyah district of Baghdad at approximately 6 a.m. The munitions included two improvised explosive devices, two rocket propelled grenade launchers, three rockets, two AK-47s, mortar fuses and detonation wire.
An hour later, soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 1st IA Division, discovered a weapons cache in the Sadr City district of Baghdad consisting of eight rocket propelled grenades for vehicle mounting, two rocket propelled grenade launchers, three rockets of various types, four improvised explosive devices, a 155 mm round, a 130 mm round, two 120 mm rounds, approximately one pound of C4 explosive, 100, 7.62 mm rounds; 50 sniper rounds, a grenade and a rifle.
MND-B Soldiers with the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, discovered a weapons cache in the East Rashid district of Baghdad at approximately 7:30 a.m. consisting of nine grenades; 400, 7.62 mm rounds; detonation wire, a shock tube, two RPG boosters, two RPG warheads and a PKC machine gun.
Approximately 45 minutes later, soldiers with the 3rd Bde., 1st IA Div., uncovered another weapons cache in Sadr City consisting of an improvised explosive device constructed from a 120 mm round, six rocket propelled grenades, 60 mm mortar fuses; 16, 60 mm mortar charges; an SPG-9 scope, two 14.5 mm ammunition boxes, 50 PKC machine gun rounds and wire.
Today, lives were saved in Baghdad, said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman, Multi-National Division Baghdad and the 4th Infantry Division. Every IED seized, weapon confiscated and enemy detained equates to a better future for the Baghdad City residents.
